White Abarrio romps in Saratoga’s Whitney Stakes

C Two Racing Stable and Antonio Pagnano’s White Abarrio (Race Day – Catching Diamonds) sat just off the lead in Saturday’s $1-million Whitney Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, moved to take command at the quarter pole and drew away in the stretch to score by 6-1/4 lengths.  It’s the second grade one stakes victory for the 4-year-old colt by Race Day, winner of the Florida Derby (G1) at three. A two-time OBS graduate, he was sold by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, at the 2020 Winter Mixed Sale and then purchased for $40,000 out of the Nice and Easy Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2021 March Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Earlier in the Whitney undercard, C lark O. Brewster, L. William Heiligbrodt and Corinne Heiligbrodt’s Cogburn (Not This Time – In A Jif) overcame a stumbling start in the $300,000 Troy Stakes (G3), rallied down the lane and was up in deep stretch by win by three-quarters of a length. Coming in on the heels of consecutive stakes victories at Lone Star, the 4-year-old colt by Not This Time is now 11-6-2-0 with earnings $591,710 for trainer Steve Asmussen. Bregman Family Racing LLC and WEBD, LLC’s No Nay Mets (IRE) No Nay Never – Etoile) was much the best in Sunday’s $112,000 Tyro Stakes at Monmouth Park, leading from start to finish and drawing away to win by 5-1/2 lengths. Lea Farms, LLC’s Lightening Larry (Uncaptured – Moon and Sun) tracked the leaders into the stretch of the $150,000 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes at Laurel on Saturday, took the lead a sixteenth from home and was best by half a length at the wire. It’s the third straight stakes victory for the graded stakes winning 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Uncaptured, trained by Jorge Delgado, who has compiled an 18-8-5-2 career record and earned $607,080. Order and Law heads parade of weekend OBS grad stakes winners

Larry S. Buckendorf, Jeffrey Lambert, Lawrence A. Rodriguez, Paul G. Schneider, Peter Stotland and Matthew. D. White’s Order and Law (Violence – Poetic Kid) rated off the pace in the early going of the $126,000 Cougar II Stakes (G3) at Del Mar on Sunday, rallied on the turn, took command passing the eighth pole and drew off to win by 2-1/4 lengths. It’s the second stakes win for the 7-year-old ridgeling trained by Robert B. Hess, Jr., who has compiled a 42-8-6-2 career record and earned $456,804. Omar Aldabbagh and Jeff Ganje’s Shotgun Hottie (Gun Runner – Re Entry) stalked the leaders from the outside in Saturday’s $500,000 Molly Pitcher Stakes (G3) at Monmouth Park, circled horses on the turn, took the lead a sixteenth out and eased away to win by half a length. Jill Baffert and Debbie Lanni’s Du Jour (Temple CityGuiltless) scored his second stakes victory in Sunday’s $134,000 Wickerr Stakes at Del Mar, rallying from far back, finding room late and getting up in final yards to win by half a length. Casa Creed, Yo Yo Candy capture graded stakes at Saratoga

LRE Racing LLC and JEH Racing LLC’s ageless Casa Creed waited patiently on the outside in the $175,000 Kelso Stakes (G3), went after the leaders on the turn, took charge after straightening away and cruised to victory by a length. Trained by Bill Mott, the well-traveled 7-year-old son of Jimmy Creed is a multiple grade one stakes winner, compiled a 32-8-5-5 career record and earned $2,185,308 since he was purchased for $15,000 out of the Janie Roper consignment at the 2017 OBS Winter Mixed Sale.

Happy Tenth Stable’s Yo Yo Candy, ignored at 46-1 in the $175,000 Sanford Stakes (G3), tracked the leaders in the early going, surged to the lead a furlong from home and scored by 2-1/4 lengths. Fellow OBS graduate Dickens (January ’22) checked in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old son of Danzing Candy, trained by Daniel Velazquez, now 3-2-0-1 with $141,250 in earnings. Paradise Farms Corp., David Staudacher and Jason Ash’s Really Good stayed on the rail in Delaware Park’s $150,300 Kent Stakes, rallied in the stretch to take command in deep stretch and won by three quarters of a length. Fellow OBS graduate Freedom Trail (April ’22) checked in third. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old graded stakes placed colt by Hard Spun, purchased for $125,000 out of the Randy Bradshaw consignment at the 2022 OBS Spring Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. That’s three straight wins for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly, the first stakes winner for her sire, OBS graduate Bucchero. OBS grads scored four stakes victories at Horseshoe Indianapolis over the past few days,

Paradise Farms Corp. and David Staudacher’s Me and Mr. C captured the $100,000 Jonathan B. Schuster Memorial Stakes on Saturday, coming from off the pace and getting up in the final strides to win by a nose.  The 6-year-old Florida-bred son of Khozan, trained by Mike Maker, is now 32-9-6-5, with three stakes victories and earnings of $457,619. Taking command a sixteenth out, she was best by a neck with Elm Drive third, another neck behind.  It’s the sixth straight win for the 4-year-old grade one stakes winning daughter of Munnings, purchased at the 2021 OBS March Sale for $550,000 by Donato Lanni, Agent, after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. OBS graduates posted graded stakes wins at home and abroad over the weekend, with victories in Canada, Delaware and Japan.

Pantofel Stable LLC, Wachtel Stable and Gary Barber’s Lucky Score was last after a poor start in Woodbine’s $240,900 Highlander Stakes (G2), but rallied on the outside down the stretch and was best by half a length at the wire. It’s the second graded stakes victory for the 5-year-old son of Lookin At Lucky, trained by Mark Casse, leaving him with a 15-6-3-2 career record and $430,079 in earnings. Crimson Advocate wins Ascot’s Queen Mary Stakes

R.A.Hill/Swinbank/Black Ridge/Black Type’s Crimson Advocate made the most of the trip to Ascot she earned in Gulfstream’s Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies Stakes in May. The 2-year-old daughter of Nyquist used her speed to good advantage then held on to win the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) by a nose.
