Michael Imperio, Robert Cotrone, Hibiscus Stables LLC and Rudy R. Rodriguez’ Antonio of Venice (Laoban – Stella Performance) had an eventful journey in the roughly run open division. He was up close early, blocked on the turn and bumped at the head of the stretch, but kept coming and was best by three quarters of a length. OBS Spring Sale graduate Heavyweight Champs (Solomini – Miss Bonie) crossed the wire third but was awarded second by disqualification. Gary Barber’s Conglomerate (Lemon Drop Kid – Maddy’s Heart) saved ground in the early going of Woodbine’s $159,600 Valedictory Stakes (G3) on Sunday, came off the rail after turning for home, caught the leaders in deep stretch and drew away to win by a length and a half.
