Unbeaten Kinza romps in Santa Anita’s Santa Ysabel

Michael Lund Petersen’s unbeaten Kinza (Carpe Diem – Secret Wonder) made it three for three with two graded stakes victories. Going right to the front in Saturday’s$101,500 Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita the 3-year-old filly by millionaire OBS graduate Carpe Diem, trained by Bob Baffert, opened up on the turn and drew off in the stretch to an effortless five length victory. Daniel Alonso’s Skippylongstocking successfully defended his title on Saturday in the $100,000 Challenger Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs, pressing the pace, taking over in the stretch and easing away to a 2-1/2 length victory. That’s five graded stakes wins for the 4-year-old colt by Exaggerator trained by Saffie A. Joseph, Jr., who has compiled a 22-7-2-4 record and earned $1,654,185. Ashbrook Farm and Upland Flats Racing’s Red Carpet Ready stalked the pace in Gulfstream’s $145,000 Hurricane Bertie Stakes (G3) on Saturday, swung out for the drive, took command a furlong out and was best by half a length. It’s the third graded stakes victory for the 4-year-old daughter of Oscar Performance, consigned by Mayberry Farm, Agent, to the 2022 OBS Spring Sale, where she went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Purple Rein Racing’s Mucho Del Oro (Mucho Macho Man – Repeta) scored his first stakes victory in Saturday’s $101,500 San Simeon Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita. The 6-year-old son of Mucho Macho took the lead at the start and gamely held it to the finish, best by a length. Trained Doug O’Neill, he’s now 17-9-2-0 and has earned $355,100. KEM Stables’ Hot Fudge (Liam’s Map – Nelle’s Mischief) rated wide off the pace in Saturday’s $100,000 Correction Stakes at Aqueduct, went after the leaders down the stretch and was up in the final jump to score by a nose. It’s the fifth consecutive victory and third stakes win in a row for the 5-year-old daughter of Liam’s Map, trained by Linda Rice, now 13-8-1-1 with $493,905 in earnings. Victoriam Farm LLC’s Stone Silent (Adios Charlie – Travelator) pressed the pace from the rail in Sunday’s $120,000 Captiva Island Stakes at Gulfstream, took the lead a sixteenth from home and was best by half a length. That’s three straight stakes wins for the 4-year-old Florida-bred filly by Adios Charlie, consigned by Ocala Stud, Agent, to the 2022 OBS March Sale, and sold for $410,000 after working an Under Tack quarter in :20 2/5. OBS March Sale begins Tuesday

The 2024 OBS March Sale of Two Year Olds in Training begins Tuesday, March 12^th. A total of 849 juveniles are cataloged for the three-day sale, including 41 two year olds for the complete dispersal of prominent breeding and racing Lothenbach Stables, Inc. The catalog can be viewed via the OBS website.

The sale is set for Tuesday March 12^th through Thursday March 14^th, with all sessions starting at 11:00 a.m. Hips 1 – 284 will sell Tuesday; Hips 285 – 568 on Wednesday and Hips 569 – 853 on Thursday.

OBS March Under Tack Show begins Wednesday

The Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2024 March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training begins Wednesday, March 6^th.

There are four sessions, with Hips 1 – 213 breezing the first day. Hips 214 – 426 will work Thursday, March 7^th, Hips 427 – 639 will breeze on Friday, March 8^th, with Hips 640 – 853 going to the track on Saturday, March 9^th. All four sessions begin at 8:00 a.m. Under Tack Show results are posted on the OBS website.

A total of 849 juveniles are cataloged for the three-day sale, including 41 two year olds for the complete dispersal of prominent breeding and racing Lothenbach Stables, Inc.

The sale is set for Tuesday March 12^th through Thursday March 14^th, with all sessions starting at 11:00 a.m. Hips 1 – 284 will sell Tuesday; Hips 285 – 568 on Wednesday and Hips 569 – 853 on Thursday.

The Under Tack Show will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com and via the TDN, DRF, Blood-Horse and Past The Wire websites. The workouts are recorded and can be viewed on the website, in their entirety or by individual hip number. They will also be available in the Video Room at the Sale grounds as well as several kiosks in the breezeway and covered walking ring. Walking videos and conformation photos may be available in addition to under tack videos for each horse. Visitors to Ocala will find the videos available for in-room viewing at The Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn & Suites, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton.

Kilroe Mile Stakes (G1) on Sunday at Santa Anita. It’s the first grade one and third graded stakes win for the 6-year-old son of Temple City, who found room between horses coming to the eighth pole before taking command and winning decisively.
