OBS March catalog now online

The catalog for the 2024 OBS March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com.

A total of 849 juveniles, including 41 two year olds for the complete dispersal of the prominent breeding and racing Lothenbach Stables, Inc., have been cataloged for the three-day sale, set for Tuesday through Thursday, March 12th through March 14th with all sessions beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Hips 1 – 284 will sell on Tuesday, Hips 285 – 568 on Wednesday and 569 – 853 on Thursday.  The Under Tack Show will span four days: Wednesday, March 6th through Saturday, March 9th. Hips 1 – 213 will breeze Wednesday; Hips 214 – 426 will breeze Thursday; Hips 427 – 639 on Friday and Hips 640 – 853 will go Saturday. All four sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the TDN, DRF and Blood-Horse, and Past The Wire websites.

Since the beginning of 2022, OBS March graduates have been on the board 363 times in black-type races, 118 of them graded stakes including 41 graded stakes wins.

The March Sale catalog’s front cover boy is C2 Racing Stable LLC and La Milagrosa Stable LLC’s multi-millionaire 5-year-old White Abarrio. (Race Day – Catching Diamonds) A 2023 Horse of the Year finalist, he’s a three-time grade one stakes winner, taking the Florida Derby (G1) at three and the Whitney (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at four. The brightest new OBS March Sale star is Zedan Racing Stables’ Eclipse Award finalist Muth (Good Magic – Hoppa). After a sensational debut victory at Santa Anita in June, he took the American Pharoah Stakes (G1) in October and began his 3-year-old campaign with a victory in the recent San Vicente Stakes (G1). Consigned to the 2023 OBS March Sale by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, he was purchased by Donato Lanni, Agent, for a sale record equaling $2-million after speeding an Under Tack eighth in :9 3/5. Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s Speed Boat Beach (Bayern – Sophia Mia) wrapped up his 3-year-old campaign with a victory in Santa Anita’s Malibu Stakes (G1) in December.  The multiple graded stakes winning 4-year-old son of Bayern, also trained by Bob Baffert, is now 7-4-1-0 and has earned $498,000. Kazuo Kato’s millionaire Jasper Krone (Frosted – Fancy Kitten) is a two-time graded stakes winner in Japan, with 2023 victories in the Kitakyushu Kinen Stakes (G3) and the CBC Sho (Gr. 3). Now 17-6-1-2, the 5-year-old son of Frosted, trained by Hideyuki Mori, has earned $1,230,427. Omaha Beach filly tops Winter Mixed Sale’s Open Session

Hip No. 409, a yearling daughter of Omaha Beach consigned by Fly By, went to Discovery Bay Bloodstock for $100,000 to top the entire sale and Open Session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2023 Winter Mixed Sale. The bay filly is out of Gardenista, by Curlin, a daughter of graded stakes winner Valbenny (IRE).

  • Hip No. 494, Sweet Mitole, a yearling bay filly by champion OBS graduate Mitole, was sold for $90,000 to Exclusive Equine Investments. Consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, she’s out of Pointe Du Hoc, by Soldat, a daughter of graded stakes winner Storm Mesa.
  • Hip No. 610, a yearling daughter of Uncle Chuck consigned by Fly By, was purchased by Grade One Investments LLC for $80,000. The bay filly is out of Champina, by Daredevil, from the family of graded stakes winning OBS graduate Jack Milton.
  • Supernova Stables went to $70,000 for Hip No. 445, a yearling daughter of Audible consigned by New Horizons Bloodstock LLC. The chestnut filly is out of Lemoncita, by Lemon Drop Kid, a half sister to graded stakes winner Chewing Gum. walking video

  • Hip No. 621, Candle Ina Wind, a yearling son of Flameaway consigned by Summerfield, was sold to Grade One Investments LLC for $40,000. The chestnut colt is out of Curious Luck, by Trust N Luck, a daughter of stakes winner Silent Ridge.

For the Open session, 166 horses sold for a total of $2,025,900 compared with 186 horses bringing $2,065,700 in 2023. The average price was $12,204 compared with $11,106 last year, while the median price was $5,100 compared with $7,500 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 19.8%; it was 8.4% in 2023.

For the Consignor Preferred session, 83 horses sold for a total of $1,913,400, compared with 99 horses grossing $2,696,700 in 2023. The average price was $23,053, compared with $27,239 a year ago, while the median price was $16,000, compared to last year’s $20,000. The buyback percentage was 23.1%; it was 13.2% last year.

For the Horses of Racing Age section, 31 horses grossed $545,000 compared with 95 selling for a total of $1,583,800 in 2023. The average was $17,581 compared with $16,672 a year ago, while the median price was $11,000 compared to $10,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 18.4%; it was 13.6% in 2023.

For the entire Winter Mixed Sale, 280 horses sold for a total of $4,484,300, compared to 380 horses bringing $6,346,200 last year. The average was $16,015, compared to $16,701 in 2023 while the median price was $8,000, compared with $9,500 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 20.7%; it was 11% in 2023.

Next on the OBS agenda is the March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, scheduled for March 12 – 14. The Under Tack Show is set for March 6 – 9, beginning each morning at 8:00 a.m.

Under Tack Show set for Monday morning at 9:00 a.m.

The Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s Winter Mixed Sale’s Horses of Racing Age Section is set for Monday, January 22nd at 9:00 a.m.

There are 75 horses cataloged in the Racing Age section, with Hip No.’s 201- 265 in the original printed Winter Mixed Sale catalog as well as on the OBS website.

The supplemental catalog, including Racing Age supplements Hip No’s 266 – 276, is also available on the website as well as in print at the sales grounds. Set lists are available on the OBS website at the main sale page by set and by consignor.

TheUnder Tack Show will showcase newly turned 3-year-olds by a strong roster of proven and up and coming sires.  American Pharoah, Bucchero, Classic Empire and Constitution are represented, as well as  Khozan,  Mitole, Munnings, Tapit, Vino Rosso and Violence.

The Under Tack Show will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com and via the Blood-Horse, Daily Racing Form, TDN and Past The Wire websites. Winter Mixed Sale Supplemental Catalog now online

The supplemental catalog to the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2024 Winter Mixed Sale is now available on the company’s website in the sale’s main page. go to the Winter Mixed Sale

A total of 46 horses have been supplemented to the sale.

Fifteen horses have been supplemented to the Preferred Session, for a total of 137 horses cataloged as Hip No.’s 1 – 137. The Session will begin Tuesday, January 23rd at 12 noon.

The addition of 11 supplements increases the Horses of Racing Age Session to a total of 76, cataloged as Hip No.’s 201 – 276, beginning immediately following the Preferred Session.

Twenty horses have been added to the Open Session, which gets underway Wednesday, January 24th at 12 noon with a total of 263 horses cataloged as Hip No.’s 401 – 663.

The Racing Age section’s optional Under Tack Show is scheduled for Monday, January 22nd at 9:00 a.m.

The supplemental catalog will be available in print at the sales grounds.

Supplements to the Winter Mixed Sale are still being accepted.  Their catalog pages will not be available in the printed supplement but will be available in the online catalog and in print at the sales grounds.

OBS March catalog now online

The catalog for the 2024 OBS March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com.

A total of 849 juveniles, including 41 two year olds for the complete dispersal of the prominent breeding and racing Lothenbach Stables, Inc., have been cataloged for the three-day sale, set for Tuesday through Thursday, March 12th through March 14th with all sessions beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Hips 1 – 284 will sell on Tuesday, Hips 285 – 568 on Wednesday and 569 – 853 on Thursday.  The Under Tack Show will span four days: Wednesday, March 6th through Saturday, March 9th. Hips 1 – 213 will breeze Wednesday; Hips 214 – 426 will breeze Thursday; Hips 427 – 639 on Friday and Hips 640 – 853 will go Saturday. All four sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the TDN, DRF and Blood-Horse, and Past The Wire websites.

Since the beginning of 2022, OBS March graduates have been on the board 363 times in black-type races, 118 of them graded stakes including 41 graded stakes wins.

The brightest new OBS March Sale star is Zedan Racing Stables’ Eclipse Award finalist Muth (Good Magic – Hoppa). After a sensational debut victory at Santa Anita in June, he took the American Pharoah Stakes (G1) in October and began his 3-year-old campaign with a victory in the recent San Vicente Stakes (G1). Consigned to the 2023 OBS March Sale by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, he was purchased by Donato Lanni, Agent, for a sale record equaling $2-million after speeding an Under Tack eighth in :9 3/5. Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s Speed Boat Beach (Bayern – Sophia Mia) wrapped up his 3-year-old campaign with a victory in Santa Anita’s Malibu Stakes (G1) in December.  The multiple graded stakes winning 4-year-old son of Bayern, also trained by Bob Baffert, is now 7-4-1-0 and has earned $498,000. Hip No. 507, a son of champion OBS graduate Mitole consigned by Sue Vacek, Agent, went to Quarter Pole Enterprises, LLC for $250,000, topping Wednesday’s second session and the entire 2023 OBS October Yearling Sale.  The dark bay or brown colt, a half-brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Midnight Stroll, is out of Midnight Magic, by champion OBS graduate Midnight Lute.

  • Hip 745, a son of Global Campaign consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent, was also sold to Quarter Pole Enterprises, LLC for $150,000. The bay colt is out of OBS graduate Maid in Heaven, by Yes It’s True, a full sister to graded stakes winner Yesbyjimminy.
  • Hip No. 438, a son of Complexity consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to D. J. Stable LLC for $135,000.   • Hip No. 675, a son of Classic Empire consigned by Camelot Acres Racing and Sales, Agent, went to Grassroots Training & Sales LLC for $70,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Siena Grace, by More Than Ready, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Sol Mi Fa (IRE).
  • Hip No. 734, Grand Empire, a son of Classic Empire consigned by Hare Hill Farm, was purchased by Calumet Farm for $70,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Susan Elaine, by Hold Me Back, from the family of graded stakes winner Eminency.
  • Hip No. 742, a daughter of War of Will consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent, was sold for $67,000 to Steve Epley Jr. The bay filly is out of Keira, by Unusual Heat, a full sister to graded stakes winner Majestic Heat.
  • Pippa Bloodstock went to $65,000 for Hip No. 486, a daughter of Daredevil out of Make Music, by Unbridled’s Song. Sennebec South Farm, Agent, consigned the chestnut filly, a daughter of graded stakes winner Wander Mom.
  • Hip No. 644, a daughter of Vino Rosso consigned by Abbie Road Farm (Lisa McGreevy), Agent, was sold to Highpoint Bloodstock for Richard Greeley for $65,000. The chestnut filly is out of OBS graduate Rosie Red, by Exchange Rate, a half sister to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Hey Byrn.

For the session, 191 horses sold for a total of $3,969,100.  The average price was $20,781 and the median price was $15,000. The buyback percentage was 33.4%.

The entire sale saw 386 horses gross a total of $7,692,100 compared to 394 horses for $10,560,900 last year. The average for the sale was $19,928 with a $12,500 median versus an average of $26,804 and median of $17,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 34.2% this year compared to 28.9% in 2022.

Hip No. 353, a daughter of Bolt d’Oro consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent, was sold to de Meric Sales, Agent for $135,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2023 October Yearling Sale.  The bay filly is out of Final Reward, by Arch, and is a half sister to newly stakes placed Yatta, third in the recent Selima Stakes at Laurel.

  • Hip No. 193, a son of Omaha Beach consigned by Stuart Morris, Agent, went to Brown Water Stables for $100,000. The bay colt is out of Courageous Cajun, by Treasure Beach (GB), a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Cajun Delta Dawn.
  • Hip No. 279, a son of Gormley consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent for Spendthrift Farm LLC, was purchased by Shepherd Equine Advisors, Agent for Larry Hirsch, for $100,000. October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2023 October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, October 10th. There are 713 yearlings cataloged for the two-day sale, with both sessions beginning at 10:0a.m.

The Sale is set for Tuesday, October 10th and Wednesday, October 11th. Hip No.’s 1 – 338 plus supplements 339 – 359 will be offered on Tuesday and Hip No’s 401 – 739 plus supplements 740 – 755 will be sold on Wednesday.

A total of 37 yearlings were supplemented to the sale after the catalog was printed. Their catalog pages are available via the OBS website at obssales.com and in printed form at the sales grounds.

The OBS October Yearling Sale has long been a source for top class racehorses, its alumni perennially performing at the sport’s highest levels. Over the past year October grads have won major races across the country and overseas. From Crimson Advocate capturing the Queen Mary (G2) at Ascot through Elm Drive’s Monrovia Stakes victory at (G3) at Santa Anita, October grads also won major graded stakes at Del Mar (Havnameltdown, Speed Boat Beach, Speaking Scout), Keeneland (Delight, Key of Life) and Churchill Downs (Foreign Relations).

The latest stakes winning OBS October graduate is Laurie Plesa and Glassman Racing LLC’s Time Passage (Tunwoo – Savingtime) who captured Gulfstream’s Miss Gracie Stakes on Saturday. The 3-year-old Florida-bred filly was consigned to the 2021 October Yearling Sale by Stuart Morris, Agent, and sold for $85,000.
