Baoma Corp.’s Nysos (Nyquist – Netta Z) is two for two and a graded stakes winner after an effortless romp in the $100,000 Bob Hope Stakes (G3) at Del Mar on Sunday. Last of four in the early going, the 2-year-old colt by Nyquist came around his rivals on the turn, took over in the stretch, and drew away to score by 8-3/4 lengths, running seven furlongs in a rapid 1:21 3/5. After taking both starts for trainer Bob Baffert by a combined 19-1/4 lengths, he has earned $96,600 to date. Colts Neck Stables LLC’s Nothing Better (Munnings – One True Love (IRE)) successfully defended his title in the $150,000 Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship Stakes, taking the lead at the start and never looking back en route to a 1-3/4 length victory.  That’s three stakes wins for the 6-year-old son of Munnings, trained by Jorge Duarte, Jr., now 25-9-5-3 with $566,217 in earnings. Screen Door Stables, LLC’s Squints (Khozan – Ephyra), ignored at 28-1 in the $85,000 Juvenile Sprint Stakes, slipped thorough on the inside to go after the leaders in the lane, took over a furlong from home and scored by a length and three quarters. OBS 2023 Spring Sale graduate Big Effect (The Big Beast – Holiday Flare) settled for third. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Khozan, purchased for $50,000 out of the Journeyman Bloodstock consignment at the 2022 OBS October Yearling Sale. Now 3-2-0-0 for trainer Kelly Breen, he has earned $94,280.

Ernest C. Frohboese’s Chi Chi (Audible – Simply Confection) captured the $60,000 Juvenile Fillies Sprint Stakes, rallying from off the pace, taking charge inside the eighth pole and drawing away to win by 2-3/4 lengths, with OBS January ’22/April ’23 graduate Miss Sayely (Maximus Mischief – Lady Halite) checking in third. Hip No. 507, a son of champion OBS graduate Mitole consigned by Sue Vacek, Agent, went to Quarter Pole Enterprises, LLC for $250,000, topping Wednesday’s second session and the entire 2023 OBS October Yearling Sale.  The dark bay or brown colt, a half-brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Midnight Stroll, is out of Midnight Magic, by champion OBS graduate Midnight Lute.

  • Hip 745, a son of Global Campaign consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent, was also sold to Quarter Pole Enterprises, LLC for $150,000. The bay colt is out of OBS graduate Maid in Heaven, by Yes It’s True, a full sister to graded stakes winner Yesbyjimminy.
  • Hip No. 438, a son of Complexity consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to D. J. Stable LLC for $135,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Lady Halite, by Medaglia d’Oro, and is a half brother to stakes winner Recruiter and 2-year-old filly Miss Sayely, an 11-length winner of a Gulfstream Maiden Special on September 17th.

  • Hip No. 675, a son of Classic Empire consigned by Camelot Acres Racing and Sales, Agent, went to Grassroots Training & Sales LLC for $70,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Siena Grace, by More Than Ready, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Sol Mi Fa (IRE).
  • Hip No. 734, Grand Empire, a son of Classic Empire consigned by Hare Hill Farm, was purchased by Calumet Farm for $70,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Susan Elaine, by Hold Me Back, from the family of graded stakes winner Eminency.
  • Hip No. 742, a daughter of War of Will consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent, was sold for $67,000 to Steve Epley Jr. The bay filly is out of Keira, by Unusual Heat, a full sister to graded stakes winner Majestic Heat.
  • Pippa Bloodstock went to $65,000 for Hip No. 486, a daughter of Daredevil out of Make Music, by Unbridled’s Song. Sennebec South Farm, Agent, consigned the chestnut filly, a daughter of graded stakes winner Wander Mom.
  • Hip No. 644, a daughter of Vino Rosso consigned by Abbie Road Farm (Lisa McGreevy), Agent, was sold to Highpoint Bloodstock for Richard Greeley for $65,000. The chestnut filly is out of OBS graduate Rosie Red, by Exchange Rate, a half sister to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Hey Byrn.

For the session, 191 horses sold for a total of $3,969,100.  The average price was $20,781 and the median price was $15,000. The buyback percentage was 33.4%.

The entire sale saw 386 horses gross a total of $7,692,100 compared to 394 horses for $10,560,900 last year. The average for the sale was $19,928 with a $12,500 median versus an average of $26,804 and median of $17,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 34.2% this year compared to 28.9% in 2022.

Hip No. 353, a daughter of Bolt d’Oro consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent, was sold to de Meric Sales, Agent for $135,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2023 October Yearling Sale.  The bay filly is out of Final Reward, by Arch, and is a half sister to newly stakes placed Yatta, third in the recent Selima Stakes at Laurel.

  • Hip No. 193, a son of Omaha Beach consigned by Stuart Morris, Agent, went to Brown Water Stables for $100,000. The bay colt is out of Courageous Cajun, by Treasure Beach (GB), a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Cajun Delta Dawn.
  • Hip No. 279, a son of Gormley consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent for Spendthrift Farm LLC, was purchased by Shepherd Equine Advisors, Agent for Larry Hirsch, for $100,000.   • Hip No. 154, a son of Gunnevera consigned by Abbie Road Farm (Lisa McGreevy), Agent, was sold to Stefania Farm for $50,000. The chestnut colt is out of Bold Embrace, by Graeme Hall, from the family of grade one stakes winner Wavell Avenue.
  • Tom McCrocklin, Agent, paid $50,000 for Hip No. 162, a son of Win Win Win consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent. The dark bay or brown colt is out of stakes placed Brennan, by Forestry, from the family of graded stakes placed stakes winner Gazillion.
  • Hip No. 324, a son of Khozan consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, was sold to Robert B. Hess for $50,000. The bay colt is out of OBS graduate House Money, by Wildcat Heir, a full sister to stakes winning OBS graduate Fiscal Policy.

For the session, 175 horses sold for a total of $3,308,500.  The average price was $18,906; the median price was $12,000. The buyback percentage was 41.5%.

Danny A. Eplin’s unbeaten Dreamfyre (Flameaway – Appreciating) is three for three and a graded stakes winner after gamely taking Santa Anita’s $202,000 Surfer Girl Stakes (G3). Taking the lead at the start, she was headed briefly on the turn by fellow OBS Spring graduate Buttercream Babe (Twirling Candy – Runway Ready) but refused to yield, battling back down the stretch and prevailing by a neck at the wire. George Krikorian’s War Like Goddess (English Channel – Misty North) beat the boys again, defending her title in the $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1) at Aqueduct. She moved to contention turning for home, blew past the frontrunner a furlong out and drew off and scored by 4-1/2 lengths. That’s nine graded stakes victories for the 6-year-old daughter of English Channel, consigned to the 2019 OBS June Sale by Hemingway Racing and Training Stables, and sold for $30,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5.
