Wonder Gadot wins Woodbine’s Queen’s Plate

Gary Barber’s Wonder Gadot added blinkers before taking on the boys in Saturday’s $1,008,000 Queen’s Plate Stakes at Woodbine and the 3-year-old graded stakes winning daughter of Medaglia d’Oro found the view to her liking, moving to the leaders on the outside on the turn, taking charge a quarter mile from home and bounding away in the stretch to win by 4-3/4 lengths. She’s the second OBS graduate to capture the Canadian classic. Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Sir Dudley Digges (June ’15) won the 2016 renewal. The latest millionaire OBS graduate, Wonder Gadot is now 12-4-4-3 for trainer Mark Casse and has earned $1,199,053 to date. She turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 before she was purchased for $325,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2017 April Sale. watch her under tack video

Bloom Racing Stable, Madaket Stables LLC & Allen Racing LLC’s Midnight Bisou pressed fellow OBS graduate Road to Victory (April ’17) in the early going of the $237,500 Mother Goose Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park, took command at the head of the stretch and drew off down the lane to beat her by six lengths. It’s the fourth graded stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Midnight Lute, consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds to the2017 OBS April Sale, where she breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before going to Jeffrey Bloom for $80,000. Rockingham Ranch & Gelfenstein Farm’s X Y Jet showed no ill effects from his recent trip to Dubai, where he was caught at the wire by fellow OBS graduate Mind Your Biscuits (April ’15) in the Golden Shaheen (G1), bouncing right to the front in Gulfstream’s $272,500 Smile Sprint Stakes (G3) and never looking back en route to a 2-1/4 length victory. OBS graduates Sweetontheladies (April ’16) and Petrov (June ’16) were moved up to second and third by the stewards. That’s seven stakes wins for the 6-year-old Florida-bred son of Kantharos, now 22-10-7-2 for trainer Jorge Navarro with $1,558,663 in earnings. Oxley and Meadowview Farm LLC’s Ride a Comet had only one horse beaten early in Woodbine’s $105,200 Charlie Barley Stakes, but the 3-year-old son of Candy Ride (ARG) advanced on the turn, caught the leaders a sixteenth from home and eased away to a 2-3/4 length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Elusive Mischief (April ’17, August ’16) settled for third. Trained by Mark Casse, his first stakes win leaves him with an 8-4-0-0 career record and earnings of $131,856. Wilfredo Agusti, Jr.’s War Giant stepped into stakes company for the first time in the $75,000 Carry Back Stakes at Gulfstream, took the lead at the start and led all the way, coasting home to a 5-3/4 length victory. Three for three this year for trainer Oscar Gonzalez, the 3-year-old colt by Data Link is a two time OBS graduate, consigned by Azpurua Stables to both the 2016 August Selected Sale of Yearlings and the 2017 March Sale where he worked an Under Tack quarter in :21 3/5. JAL Racing’s Alter Moon picked up her first stakes win on Saturday at Gulfstream, taking the lead on the turn of the $75,000 Azalea Stakes and drawing away smartly down the stretch to a five length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Starship Bonita (March ’17, August ’16) checked in third. It’s the second straight win for 3-year-old filly by Alternation. She was purchased for $22,000 out of the SGV Thoroughbreds (Steven Venosa) consignment at the 2017 OBS June Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 4/5. Trained by Jose D. Frank Fletcher Racing Operations, Inc.’s C Z Rocket sat just off the pace in the early gong of the $68,130 Kelly’s Landing Overnight Stakes at Churchill Downs on Saturday, blew past the leaders approaching the eighth pole and drew off to a four length victory, running the seven furlongs in a sprightly 1:21 2/5. Fellow OBS graduate Warrior’s Club (April ’16) checked in third. It’s the first stakes win for the lightly raced 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by City Zip, purchased in 2016 out of the Stephens Thoroughbred consignment for an OBS June Sale record $800,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :21 1/5. American Anthem leads 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Santa Anita’s San Carlos Stakes

WinStar Farm LLC, Head of Plains Partners LLC, China Horse Club & SF Racing LLC’s American Anthem battled head to head with fellow OBS graduate St. Joe Bay (June ’14, Jan ’13) from the start of Saturday’s $251,035 San Carlos Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita, took a short lead in mid-stretch then held his rival off late to win by a head. Horse Greedy (March ’15, August ’14) completed a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the race. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Bodemeister, trained by Bob Baffert, now 10-5-1-2 with $673,945 in earnings. Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC & Willis Horton Racing LLC’s Bano Solo made his debut on Saturday, went right to the lead in a five furlong maiden special weight test, shook off the field turning for home and cruised to a three length victory for trainer Steve Asmussen. The 2-year-old colt by back to back Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winning OBS graduate Goldencents was sold for $400,000 by Hoby & Layna Kight at the the 2018 OBS March Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :20 1/5, the sale’s fastest at the distance. John C. Oxley’s Catherinethegreat settled for second in her debut on April 26, but she put the lesson to good use in her second start on Saturday at Gulfstream, taking command of a five furlong maiden special weight dash on the turn and romping from there to a 10-1/4 length victory in :57.83.  The 2-year filly by Uncaptured, who also raced for Mr. Oxley, was purchased for $170,000 out of the Turtle Pond Farm consignment, topping the 2017 OBS October Open Sale of Yearlings. Trained by Mark Casse, she has earned $53,800 to date.

Shang Shang Shang scores in Royal Ascot’s Norfolk Stakes

Breeze Easy LLC’s Shang Shang Shang took the lead at the start of the Norfolk Stakes (G2) against the boys at Royal Ascot on Thursday and led all the way, holding off a late charge to win by a nose. The 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Shanghai Bobby provided a quick return on investment, breaking her maiden at first asking at Keeneland on April 26 in her only other start. A two time OBS graduate, she was purchased out of the SBM Training & Sales consignment by Breeze Easy for $200,000 at the 2018 OBS March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5. Mr. Misunderstood captures Churchill’s Wise Dan Stakes

Flurry Racing Stables LLC’s Mr. Misundertood overcame a bump at the start of Saturday’s $200,000 Wise Dan Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, sat just off the pace, rallied down the stretch and took over late to win by half a length. It’s the fifth stakes win for the 4-year-old gelding by Archarcharch, winner of the Commonwealth Turf Stakes (G3) over the same course last November. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Dominus, sold by Silver Oaks Farm for $42,000 at the 2015 OBS August Selected Yearling Sale. Ltd.’s Alliford Bay scored her third straight stakes win in the $50,000 Washington State Legislators Stakes at Emerald Downs on Saturday, tracking the leader into the stretch before taking the lead inside the final furlong and drawing off to a four length victory. The 4-year-old City Zip filly was sold for $150,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2016 OBS April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. OBS has scheduled a day of racing for January 23, 2018 with entries closing January 16th . Pari-mutuel wagering will be available.

The races will consist of QH races for straight three year olds as well as older horses at distances from 220 to 440  yards and may also include up to four thoroughbred races.

The OBS Championship races will not be held in January. A fall date is under consideration.

It’s the first grade one win for the 4-year-old colt by Freud, trained by Jorge Navarro, now 16-8-5-1 with $1,756,740 in earnings. It’s the third stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Milwaukee Brew, winner of the Sir Barton in 2015. Trained by Sid Attard, he’s now 23-7-7-3 and has earned $498,888 to date. Seeking the Soul scores in Churchill’s Clark Handicap

Charles Fipke’s Seeking the Soul picked a fine spot for his first stakes win, rallying to reach contention in the stretch of Friday’s $500,000 Clark Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs, taking the lead in the stretch and holding off a late charge to score by half a length. The 4-year-old colt by Perfect Soul (IRE), now 17-5-3-5 for trainer Dallas Stewart, has earned $551,162 to date. Two OBS graduates got the holiday weekend off to a good start at Penn National.

David Jacobson’s Chief Lion rolled to a half length wire to wire victory in the $200,000 Fabulous Strike Stakes. It’s the first stakes win for the 7-year-old graded stakes placed Florida-bred gelding by Wildcat Heir, trained by his owner, now 43-11-6-7 with earnings of $717,941. Consigned to the 2011 OBS Winter Mixed Sale by Kaizen Sales, Agent for Plumley Farms, he was sold for $35,000.

Trin-Brook Stables, Inc.’s Discreet Lover tracked the early leader in the $100,000 Swatara Stakes, took over on the far turn and drew away in the stretch to win by 2-1/2 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old Florida- bred filly by Repent, trained by Uriah St. Lewis, leaving her with a 34-5-7-4 record and $527,110 in earnings. Consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, she went through the ring at the 2014 OBS August Yearling Sale.

Karl Pergola’s K P Wildcat rallied from well of the pace in Wednesday’s $75,000 Zia Park Distaff Stakes, took the lead in deep stretch and eased away to win by a length. It’s the fifth stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Include,  sold for $40,000 by Paul Sharp, Agent, at the 2015 OBS June Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Richlyn Farms’ Silver Bay is two for two and a stakes winner after leading from gate to wire and taking the Juvenile Fillies Sprint Stakes by a neck over fellow OBS graduate Starship Bonita (March ’17, August ’16). The 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Currency Swap is a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent at the 2015 Fall Mixed Sale then resold for $47,000 by Woodside Ranch, Agent, at the 2017 June Sale after working a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Magic Stables LLC’s Lirica was wide in the early going of the $75,000 Millions Distaff Stakes, moved to the leaders at the top of the stretch and was up in the final yards to win by half a length. Midwest Thoroughbreds’ Quijote battled head and head for the lead on the outside of two horses in the $75,000 Millions Sprint  Preview Stakes, took charge in deep stretch and beat fellow OBS graduate Sweetontheladies (April ’16) to the wire by a length and a quarter. It’s the second stakes win for the 4-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Pomeroy, purchased by Midwest for $25,000 out of the Kelli Mitchell consignment at the 2014 OBS August Selected Yearling Sale. It’s the fifth stakes win for the graded stakes winning 5-year-old Florida-bred colt by Kantharos, trained by Eddie Plesa, now 24-8-4-6 with $605,340 in earnings. OBS grads picked up a trio of stakes wins on Saturday at Laurel.

Bruce Tallisman’s Take Charge Paula scored her second stakes win in the $100,000 Smart Halo Stakes. She wore down the leaders in the stretch despite getting hit in the jaw with a whip, took the lead a sixteenth from home and prevailed by a head. The 2-year-old graded stakes placed daughter of Take Charge Indy was consigned by Envision Equine, Agent, to the 2017 OBS March Sale, where she breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 before she was purchased by Mr. Tallisman for $50,000. D.J. Stable’s A Different Style took the lead at the start of the $100,000 James F. Lewis Stakes and never looked back, cruising to a two length victory, with fellow OBS graduate Barry Lee (March ’17) checking in third. That’s two straight wins for the 2-year-old colt by The Factor, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was purchased for $160,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale. Holly and David Wilson’s Top of the Game took charge of the $73,690 Comma to the Top Stakes on Saturday at Santa Anita after straightening away in the stretch, opened a long lead a furlong from home and coasted from there to a 4-1/4 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old gelding by Desert Party, returning to the races after a layoff since a victory at Santa Anita in February.  Trained by Vladimir Cerin, he’s now 12-4-1-1 and has earned $167,420.
