Three OBS grads in the Kentucky Derby and three in the Kentucky Oaks

Half a dozen 2022 graduates of the OBS Two-Year-Old Sale program will be busy at Churchill Downs in the next few days, with three entered in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby (G1) and three in Friday’s Kentucky Oaks (G1).

OBS graduates Lil E. Tee (1992), Silver Charm (1997), and I’ll Have Another (2012) won the Derby; Skinner, Practical Move and Raise Cain will try to follow in their footsteps.

C R K Stable LLC’s Skinner, third in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and San Felipe Stakes (G2), was third in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) in his last start. The son of Curlin, trained by John Shirreffs, will break from post nine and ridden by Juan J. Hernandez. Tim Yakteen sends out Pierre Jean Amestoy, Jr., Leslie A. Amestoy and Roger K. Beasley’s Practical Move, starting from post ten under Ramon Vazquez. The colt by Practical Joke, a three-time graded stakes winner after taking the Santa Anita Derby (G1) in his last start, has compiled a 7-4-1-2 career record and earned $884,200. Trainer Ben Colebrook will give Gerardo Corrales a leg up on Andrew N. Warren and Rania Warren’s Raise Cain, who will break from post 16. The son of Violence, a 7-1/2 length winner of Aqueduct’s Gotham Stakes (G3), is now 7-2-1-1 and has earned $296,328. OBS graduates Blind Luck (2010) and Plum Pretty (2011) won the Kentucky Oaks; Promiseher America, And Tell Me Nolies and Affirmative Lady will try to do the same.

Hoffman Thoroughbreds, Tom McCrocklin and Medallion Racing’s lightly raced Promiseher America, trained by Raymond Handal, will start from post eight under Jorge Vargas, Jr. Her last out victory in Aqueduct’s Gazelle Stakes (G3) left her with a 4-2-1-0 record and $198,138 in earnings. At the OBS Spring Sale, the daughter of American Pharoah was purchased for $75,000 out of the Tom McCrocklin consignment after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5.  watch her under tack video

Peter Redekop B. C., Ltd.’s And Tell Me Nolies won the Del Mar Debutante (G1) and Chandelier Stakes (G2) at two and comes into the Oaks off a second in the Santa Anita Oaks (G2). Trainer Peter Miller has named Ramon Vazquez to ride and the daughter of Arrogate will start from post nine. Graham Motion sends out AMO Racing USA’s Affirmative Lady, who will start from post 13 and be ridden by John Velazquez. Graded stakes placed at two, the daughter of Arrogate comes into the Oaks after winning the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) in her last start.
