June grad Offlee Naughty scores in Santa Anita’s San Luis Rey

James M. Daniell and Donna Daniell’s Offlee Naughty was away slowly in the $101,000 San Luis Ray Stakes (G3) on Saturday at Santa Anita, but came out for the drive, reached the lead a sixteenth from home and was best by a length and a quarter at the wire. That’s two straight graded stakes victories for the 5-year-old son of Flashback, sold for $4,000 by J V C Training and Sales (Jorge and Maria Villagomez), Agent, at the 2020 OBS June Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. Frank Fletcher Racing Operations, Inc.’s Candy Man Rocket stalked the leaders three-wide early in the $175,000 Runhappy Stakes (G3) at Belmont on Saturday, went after the leaders on the turn, took command at the eighth pole and scored by a length and a half. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Candy Ride (ARG), trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, now 11-6-1-0 with earnings of $421,324. A pair of OBS graduates earned trips to the 2023 Ascot meeting by winning their respective divisions of the Royal Palm Juvenile Stakes on the turf at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

Major League baseball player Alex Bregman’s No Nay Mets (IRE) led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $100,000 Royal Palm Juvenile Stakes, leading from start to finish and scoring by 3-1/2 lengths over Mattingly (March ’23), with Zaino (March ’23) checking in third. It was the first trip to the post for the 2-year-old colt by No Nay Never, trained by George Weaver, who earned $48,000 and a trip to Ascot for his effort. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. George Weaver also saddled R. A. Hill Stable, Swinbank Stables, Black Type Thoroughbreds, RAP Racing, Chris Mara, BlackRidge Stables LLC and Amy E. Dunne’s Crimson Advocate, on her way to Ascot after a front-running 3-1/2 length victory in the $100,000 Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies Stakes, with fellow OBS graduate The Myth (October ’22) settling for third. The 2-year-old daughter or Nyquist, with earnings of $54,800 after a first and third in two starts, was purchased for $100,000 out of the Beth Bayer consignment at the 2022 October Selected Yearling Sale. Ten Twenty Racing’s Max K. O., well off the pace in Sunday’s $100,000 Mr. Steele Stakes at Gulfstream, turned in a sustained stretch drive and was up in the last jump to score by a nose, with fellow BS graduate Me and Mr. C (March ’19) checking in third. It’s the first stakes victory for the 7-year-old Florida-bred son of J P’s Gusto, who went through the ring, consigned by Rebah Farm, at the 2017 October Yearling Sale before being purchased for $13,000 out of the Santa Fe Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2018 June Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5. Bradley Thoroughbreds, Gary Finder, Belmar Racing and Breeding, LLC, Tim Cambron, Anna Cambron, and Team Hanley’s Distinctlypossible pressed the pace in Sunday’s $100,000 Serena’s Song Stakes at Monmouth Park, battled in the stretch to put her head in front a furlong out and eased away late to win by a length and a quarter. Fellow OBS graduate Shotgun Hottie (April ‘21) was third. It’s the first stakes win for the graded stakes placed 4-year-old filly by Curlin, sold for $670,000 by de Meric Sales, Agent, at the 2021 OBS Spring Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Mellon Patch, Inc.’s Lady Radler scored her first stakes victory on Sunday in the $50,000 Goldfinch Stakes at Prairie Meadows, going right to the front, opening a long lead, and coasting home to score by 2-3/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Broken Hearts Bay (April ’22). The 4-year-old daughter of Kantharos, trained by Michael B. Campbell, is now 7-3-2-1 with $169,500 in earnings.
