October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday October 11

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2022 October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, October 11th. There are 642 yearlings cataloged for the two-day sale, which gets underway at 12:00 noon with 209 horses offered in the Selected session.

The sale continues with an Open session on Wednesday, October 12th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Hip No.’s 251 – 684 will be offered.

A total of 47 yearlings were supplemented to the sale after the catalog was printed. Twenty-four horses (Hip No’s 186 – 209) were added to the Selected session and 23 (Hip No’s 661 – 684) to the Open session. Their catalog pages are available via the OBS website at obssales.com and in printed form at the sales grounds. Hip No’s 208 – 209 were late supplements and their pedigrees are available via the OBS website and printed on individual flyers.

The OBS October Yearling Sale has long been a source for top class race horses. Best Pal Stakes (G3) winner Havnameltdown has emerged from the 2021 Sale to join Call Me Midnight, Desert Dawn, Drafted, Elm Drive, Hot Peppers, Kathleen O, Lady Rocket and Midnight Stroll in the roster of recent graded stakes winning OBS October Sale graduates.

The newest October Sale star is Augustin Stable’s Delight, who raced her way into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) with a frontrunning five length victory in Friday’s Jessamine Stakes (G2) at Keeneland. The 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Mendelssohn, trained by Jonathan Thomas, is now 4-2-0-2 and has earned $211,905. Delight’s yearling half-sister by The Factor is cataloged in the upcoming OBS October Select Yearling Sale as hip 150 and is scheduled to sell on Tuesday, October 11. She is also consigned by Stuart Morris, AgentView Pedigree

Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s Speed Boat Beach is two for two and aiming at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). After a track record debut on dirt at Del Mar, the 2-year-old son of Bayern was switched to the turf by trainer Bob Baffert and took the Speakeasy Stakes at Santa Anita. He’s a two-time OBS graduate, bred in Florida by Richard Heysek at Caperlane Farm and sold by Stuart Morris, Agent, at the 2021 October Yearling Sale. CSLR Ranch Partners’ unbeaten Awesome Strong is pointing to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) after completing a sweep of Gulfstream’s FTBOA Florida Sire Dr. Fager, Affirmed and In Reality Stakes. The 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Awesome Slew, bred by John Penn, and four for four with $458,000 in earnings for trainer Jorge Delgado, was purchased for $30,000 out of the Sue Vacek consignment at the 2021 OBS October Selected Yearling Sale.

  • Hip No. 60, a colt by Enticed, is a half brother to graded stakes placed Isolate, who added Saratoga’s Tale of the Cat Stakes to his resume in August. walking video
  • Hip No. 63, a filly by Honor Code, is out of a half sister to stakes placed OBS October graduate Whichwaze, second in the P. G. Johnson Stakes at Saratoga on September 1st. walking video

  • Hip No. 258, a filly by Collected, is a half sister to newly stakes placed Quartermaster, third in the Dobbins Landing Stakes at Presque Isle on September 17th.
  • Hip No. 311, a filly by Casual Cause, is out of a half sister to the dam of Day Tripper, third in Woodbine’s Toronto Cup Stakes on October 2nd. .

  • Hip No. 617, a filly by Cajun Breeze, is out of a half sister to the dam of newly minted stakes winner Boo Boo Kitty, who captured the Satin and Lace Stakes at Presque Isle in August.

The website’s improved searchable and sortable master index provides links to videos, pedigree and consignor information as well as pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. It has also been updated to allow shortlist creation.
