Miss J McKay wins Belmont’s License Fee Stakes

Madaket Stables LLC, Wonder Stables, Tony Weintraub and Tony and Brandon M. Dalinka’s Miss J McKay tracked the pace in Sunday’s $100,000 License Fee Stakes at Belmont Park, took command after straightening away in the stretch and drew away late to score by 3-1/4 lengths. It’s the third stakes win for the lightly raced 5-year-old daughter of Hangover Kid, trained by Christophe Clement, now 15-5-4-3 with $385,373 in earnings. La Marca Stable’s Scuttlebuzz tried stakes company for the first time in Saturday’s $100,000 Elusive Quality Stakes at Belmont, relaxed off the pace in the early going, came around horses to reach contention turning for home, took over in the stretch and was best by a length at the wire. Now 17-7-2-3 for trainer Rudy R. Rodriguez, the 5-year-old gelding by The Factor has earned 348,570 to date. Dale Arnold’s Hold Tight took the lead on the inside going to the turn in Saturday’s $79,500 Gus Fonner Stakes at Fonner Park, opened daylight in the lane and scored by 8-1/2 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Intrepid Heart (April ’18). It’s the first stakes victory for the 4-year-old son of Candy Ride (ARG), purchased for $120,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2020 OBS April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 3/5.
