Colonel Liam repeats in Gulfstream’s Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational

Robert E. and Lawana L. Low’s Colonel Liam successfully defended his title in Gulfstream’s $982,300 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes (G1), sweeping to contention on the turn, taking command a furlong out and easing away late to win by a length. It was the first start since June for the 5-year-old son of Liam’s Map, trained by Todd Pletcher, giving him four graded stakes wins, a 10-7-0-1 career record and $1,810,565 in earnings. At the 2019 OBS April Sale, he turned in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 and was purchased for $1,200,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment. watch his under tack video

Michael E. Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s Essential Wager stepped into stakes company for the first time in Santa Anita’s Palos Verdes Stakes (G3) and led from gate to wire, holding off a late charge by fellow OBS graduate Shooters Shoot (April ’19) to score by a neck. That’s three straight wins for the lightly raced 4-year-old colt by Honor Code, purchased for $300,000 out of the McKathan Bros. Moyglare Stud Farm, Ltd.’s Beautiful Lover tracked the leaders in the early going of Gulfstream’s $175,000 La Prevoyante Stakes (G3), charged between horses in the stretch and was up late to score by a neck. It’s the first graded stakes victory for the 4-year-old Florida-bred filly by Arch, trained by Christophe Clement, now 16-5-4-2 with $464,550 in earnings. After turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 at the 2018 OBS April Sale, she was purchased for $475,000 by Steven W. M Bar O LLC’s Elle Z took the lead at the start of the $75,000 Frederick P. Aime Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds on Saturday, was headed by fellow OBS graduate Change of Control (October ’17) after turning for home, then battled back in the stretch and was best by a nose at the wire. That’s two straight stakes victories for the 5-year-old daughter of City Zip, who went through the ring at the 2019 OBS June Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5. Trained by Chris Hartman, she’s now 17-8-3-0 with $401,033 in earnings. She watch her under tack video
