Twenty-one OBS graduates enter the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar

From Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit to highly regarded youngster Corniche, twenty-one OBS graduates are entered in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Del Mar on Friday and Saturday.

Gary Barber’s Time to Party is entered in Friday’s $1-million Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2) and will break from post ten under Flavien Prat for trainer Peter Miller. The son of Kantharos comes in off a second place finish on the turf in Santa Anita’s Speakeasy Stakes and has compiled a 3-1-2-0 record with $76,000 in earnings. A two-time OBS graduate, he was sold first by Kim Harrison at the 2020 Winter Mixed Sale. A pair of OBS graduates are entered in the $2-million Juvenile Fillies (G1)

Philip D’Amato will saddle H and E Ranch, Inc.’s Desert Dawn, who comes in off a third in the Chandelier Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. The daughter of Cupid, who will break from post one under Ricardo Gonzales, broke her maiden at Del Mar in August and comes in with a 3-1-0-2 record with earnings of $74,400.  She went through the ring, consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent for H & E Ranch, at the 2020 OBS October Selected Yearling Sale. Hidden Brook Farm & Black Type Thoroughbreds Hidden Connection is unbeaten after winning both her starts by a combined 16-3/4 lengths, her last a victory in the Pocahontas Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs. The 2-year-old daughter of Connect is a two-time OBS graduate, going through the ring at the 2021 Spring Sale, then purchased for $85,000 out of the Coastal Equine consignment at the 2021 June Sale after breezing an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5. Two OBS graduates are entered in the $1-million Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1)

Bradley Thoroughbreds, Belmar Racing and Breeding, LLC, Tim Cambron, Anna Cambron, and Team Hanley’s Haughty crossed the wire first in both of her starts but was taken down and placed third in her debut. The 2-year-old filly by Empire Maker is now 2-1-0-1 with $61,200 in earnings for trainer Chad Brown and starts from post 11 under Tyler Gaffalione. Trainer George Leonard III sends out Chris Walsh’s California Angel, winner of Keeneland’s $200,000 Jessamine Stakes (G2) in her stakes debut in October. The daughter of California Chrome will break from post 14 and will be ridden by Rafael Bejarano. Purchased for $5,500 out of the Little Farm Equine consignment at the 2021 June Sale after working an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5, she’s now 3-2-0-1 and has earned $213,700. watch her under tack video 

A trio of OBS graduates are entered in the $2-million Juvenile (G1)

Dare to Dream Stable LLC’s well-traveled American Sanctuary was second in stakes at Prairie Meadows and Monmouth and comes in off a troubled fourth in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland. Trained by Christopher Davis, the son of American Freedom, now 5-1-2-0 with $104,550 in earnings, will break from post six and be ridden by Florent Geroux. A two-time OBS graduate, he went through the ring at the 2020 October Yearling Sale then purchased for $47,000 out of the Bold Arrow Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2021 March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch his under tack video 

Rittdiculous Gazmanian Stables’ Tough to Tame was a fast closing second in Churchill’s Iroquois Stakes (G3) in his last start, and comes into the Juvenile with a 4-2-2-0 career record and earnings of $103,350. Trainer Christopher Davis has named Sophie Doyle to ride the son of Speightster from post eleven. Speedway Stables LLC’s Corniche, in front at every call in both of his starts, comes into the Juvenile off a 3-1/4 length romp in the American Pharoah Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita. At the 2021 Spring Sale, the colt by Quality Road breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat and was purchased for a sale topping $1,500,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment. Three Diamonds Farm and Deuce Greathouse’s Stolen Base will break from post nine and be ridden by Umberto Rispoli for trainer Mike Maker. A winner on dirt at Saratoga in his debut, the son of Bodemeister is now 4-1-2-0 with earnings of $114,360 after finishing second in Keeneland’s Bourbon Stakes (G2) in his last start. Mark Casse sends out Harry T. Rosenblum’s Credibility, a winner first time out on the turf at Gulfstream and third last time out in Keeneland’s Bourbon Stakes in October. The son of Nyquist has compiled a 3-1-0-1 record, earned $50,638 to date and Mike Smith will ride from post twelve. Medallion Racing, Barry Fowler, Parkland Thoroughbreds, Little Red Feather Racing and BlackRidge Stables LLC’s Estilo Talentoso drew post two and will be ridden by Jose Ortiz. She won Belmont’s Bed o’ Roses Stakes (G3) and has been on the board this year in five other graded stakes. The 4-year-old daughter of Maclean’s Music is a two time OBS graduate. Consigned twice by McKathan Bros, she went through the ring at the 2019 April Sale before she was purchased for $15,000 at the 2019 June Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 4/5. Hronis Racing LLC’s Edgeway comes into the race off a victory in Del Mar’s Rancho Bernardo Handicap (G3) in August and has won or placed in three other black type races. The lightly raced 4-year-old filly by Competitive Edge was purchased for $275,000 out of the Mayberry Farm consignment at the 2019 OBS April Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Monster Racing Stables’ The Critical Way  is number 14 on the also-eligible list for the $1-million Turf Sprint  (G1). The 7-year-old son of Tizway comes into the race off two straight stakes scores, the last the Parx Dash Stakes (G3) in August. He’s now 27-9-6-2 with $548,168 in earnings for trainer Jose Delgado, who has named Luis Saez to ride. Kazuo Kato’s Jasper Prince, who shipped in to compete in the Dirt Mile in 2020, is back for a second try. A three-time stakes winner in Japan, the 6-year-old son of Violence is trained by Hideyuki Mori and will be ridden by Yuichi Fukunaga from post four. Now 26-6-2-3 with $1,035,328 in earnings, he was purchased for $100,000 out of the Cary Frommer consignment at the 2017 March Sale after working an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Bloom Racing Stable LLC’s Snapper Sinclair comes in off a second place finish in the Eddie D Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita.  The 6-year-old son of City Zip, a three-time stakes winner, has compiled a 34-7-9-4 career record with $1,833,340 in earnings. Trained by Steve Asmussen, he’ll break from post seven under Joel Rosario. George Krikorian’s War Like Goddess can wrap up an Eclipse Award with a victory.in the $2-million Filly and Mare Turf (G1). She comes on the heels of four straight graded stakes wins, the last in Saratoga’s Flower Bowl Stakes (G1) in September. Bill Mott trains the 4-year-old daughter of English Channel, who starts from post seven under Julien Leparoux. Altamira Racing Stable, Madaket Stables LLC, Gary Barber and Tom Kagele’s C Z Rocket breaks from post three under Florent Geroux. Second in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), he captured Oaklawn’s Count Fleet (G3) earlier this year and was on the board in graded stakes in his last four starts. A five-time stakes winner, the 7-year-old Florida-bred son of City Zip turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased out of the Stephens Thoroughbred consignment at the 2016 OBS June Sale for a then sale record $800,000. Paradise Farms Corp. and David Staudacher’s Special Reserve earned his berth in the starting gate last time out with a victory in the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes (G2) at Keeneland. Trained by Mike Maker, the 5-year-old son of Midshipman, will start from post eight and be ridden by Irad Ortiz. Now 22-8-2-7 with $638,647 in earnings, he was consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, to the 2018 OBS March Sale, and breezed an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5 before he was sold for $140,000. watch his under tack video

LRE Racing LLC and JEH Racing LLC’s Casa Creed, the only OBS graduate in the $2-million Mile (G1), is a two-time graded stakes winner, the most recent Belmont’s Jaipur Stakes (G1) in June. Junior Alvarado has the mount for trainer Bill Mott, and the 5-year-old son of Jimmy Creed will start from the 13 post. Now 20-5-3-4 with earnings of $843,308, he was purchased for $15,000 out of the Janie Roper consignment at the 2017 OBS Winter Mixed Sale.

Zedan Racing Stables Inc.’s Medina Spirit carries the OBS banner in the $6-million Classic (G1) and can stake a claim to an Eclipse Award with a victory. In addition to winning the Kentucky Derby (G1), the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Protonico scored in Santa Anita’s Robert B. Lewis (G3) and Awesome Again Stakes (G1) and placed in four other graded races. Trained by Bob Baffert, he’ll be ridden by John Velazquez and start from post eight.
