Bella Sofia scores in Belmont’s Gallant Bloom Handicap

Michael Imperio, Medallion Racing, Sofia Soares, Vincent S. Scuderi and Parkland Thoroughbreds’ Bella Sofia took the lead at the start of Belmont’s $232,500 Gallant Bloom Handicap (G2) and never looked back, pulling away down the stretch to a 3-1/2 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Lady Rocket (April ’19, October ’18). Rudy Rodriguez trains the 3-year-old filly by Awesome Patriot, who has posted three stakes wins, compiled a 5-4-1-0 record and earned $542,600. LNJ Foxwoods’ Outfoxed was held off the pace in the early going of the $400,000 FTBOA Florida Sire My Dear Girl Stakes, swung outside and swept to the lead with a rush on the turn then drew off down the stretch and scored by 9-1/4 lengths. Fellow OBS graduate My Sassenach (April ’21) settled for third. That’s two straight stakes wins for the 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Valiant Minister, a two-time OBS graduate. Sold first by Abbie Road Farm at the 2020 October Yearling Sale, she sped an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 at the 2021 Spring Sale and was purchased for $360,000 out of the Coastal Equine consignment. Monarch Stables Inc.’s Last Leaf led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $75,000 Hollywood Beach Stakes, tracking pacesetting Nerve (April ’21) around the turn, reaching even terms a furlong from home and proving best by a head at the wire. Barone Casco (April ’21, October ’20) checked in third. It was the stakes debut for the 3-year-old daughter of Not This Time, trained by Ron Spatz, now 5-3-1-0 with $107,490 in earnings. Exline-Border Racing LLC, SAF Racing and Richard Hausman’s Lady Mystify stalked the early leaders in Saturday’s $200,000 Remington Park Oaks (G3), moved up to take charge in mid-stretch and drew off late to a three length victory. It’s the first stakes score for the 3-year-old daughter of Bernardini, trained by Peter Eurton, leaving her with a 6-3-1-1 record and $217,520 in earnings. Iris Smith Stable, LLC’s Shipsational pressed the pace in Sunday’s $139,500 Bertram F. Bongard Stakes at Belmont, rallied to take command at the eighth pole and eased away late to win by two lengths, with fellow OBS graduate Surprise Boss (March ’21) finishing third. It’s the first stakes victory for the 2-year-old colt by Midshipman, who turned in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 at the 2021 OBS March Sale and was purchased for $210,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment. SAB Stable Inc.’s Everett’s Song was four wide and off the early pace in Saturday’s $275,000 Harrods Creek Stakes at Churchill Downs, came after the leaders from the outside in the lane, reached the lead a sixteenth from home and scored by 2-3/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate He’smyhoneybadger (March ’20). Poindexter Thoroughbreds LLC’s Bossy Moment picked up her first stakes victory in the $102,250 Iowa Breeders’ Oaks on Saturday at Prairie Meadows. The 3-year-old daughter of Street Boss, trained by Lynn Chleborad, was up close early, took charge on the turn and drew off down the stretch to win by 6-3/4 lengths. Now 14-4-2-4, she has earned $178,260 to date.
