Medina Spirit returns and scores in Del Mar’s Shared Belief Stakes

Zedan Racing Stables Inc.’s Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Medina Spirit, idle since finishing third in the Preakness (G1), returned to the races on Sunday with a frontrunning victory in the $100,500 Shared Belief Stakes at Del Mar. The 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Protonico set a pressured pace, opened daylight after straightening away in the stretch and scored by a length and a quarter. He’s a two-time OBS graduate, sold for $1,000 as a yearling by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, on behalf of breeder Gail Rice at the 2019 Winter Mixed Sale, then purchased for $35,000 by Gary Young on behalf of Zedan Racing Stables out of the Whitman Sales consignment at the 2020 June Sale after breezing three eighths in :33 flat. The Shared Belief is his third stakes win, leaving him with an 8-4-3-1 career record and $2,345,200 in earnings for trainer Bob Baffert. watch his under tack video
