Edgeway leads parade of OBS weekend stakes winners

Hronis Racing LLC’s Edgeway got the weekend off to a flying start Friday evening at Del Mar, setting the pace in the $98,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap (G3), turning back a challenge on the turn and easing away in the stretch to score by a length. It’s the first graded stakes victory for the 4-year-old filly by Competitive Edge, purchased for $275,000 out of the Mayberry Farm consignment at the 2019 OBS April Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. LNJ Foxwoods’ Boardroom rallied from just off the pace in the $155,400 Seaway Stakes (G3) on Saturday at Woodbine, took command at the top of the stretch and drew away to a 4-1/2 length victory. It’s the second straight graded stakes win for 4-year-old daughter of Commissioner, trained by Josie Carroll, now 7-5-1-1 with $283,569 in earnings. Consigned to the 2019 OBS April Sale by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds LLC, she was purchased by Solis / Litt for $475,000 after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :20 1/5. watch her under tack video

Jay Oringer, Jack Bick, Al Bianchi Racing LLC, Adam Bayroff and Mike Maturo’s Piedi Bianchi pressed the pace in Saturday’s $111,600 Smart N Fancy Stakes at Saratoga, took command inside the eighth pole and was best by 2-1/4 lengths at the wire. It’s the fourth stakes victory for the multiple graded stakes placed 6-year-old daughter of Overanalyze, purchased for $80,000 out of the Halcyon Hammock Farm consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. West Point Thoroughbreds and Marvin Delfiner’s Jaxon Traveler picked up his third stakes victory in the $67,500 Star de Naskra Stakes at Pimlico on Saturday, drawing off in the stretch to score by three lengths. The graded stakes placed 3-year-old colt by Munnings, trained by Steve Asmussen, is now 9-5-3-1 and has earned $390,210. He was purchased for $140,000 out of the Grassroots Training & Sales consignment at the 2020 OBS Spring Sale by L.E.B., Agent for West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc. after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. watch his under tack video   Spring Sale walking video

Gentry Farms’ (A.P. Gentry) Eldon’s Prince, second in his debut earlier this month, stepped into Gulfstream’s $75,000 Proud Man Stakes and came from off the pace to romp to a six length victory. The 2-year-old colt by Cairo Prince, who sped an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat at the 2021 OBS Spring Sale, was purchased for $280,000 out of the Eddie Woods consignment. Golden Rock Thoroughbreds’ Strong Beauty battled three-wide for the lead in the Saturday’s Louisiana Cup Filly and Mare Sprint Stakes at Louisiana Downs, was strongest in the drive and eased away late to score by a length and a quarter. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Overanalyze, trained by Ron Faucheux, now 13-5-3-1 with $177,810 in earnings. A two-time OBS graduate, she was sold by Pelican State Thoroughbreds at the 2018 Winter Mixed Sale and then purchased for $30,000 out of the Silver Star consignment at the 2019 June Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video
