Venetian Harbor leads parade of weekend stakes winners

Ciaglia Racing LLC, Highland Yard LLC, River Oak Farm and Dominic Savides’ Venetian Harbor was much the best in Saturday’s $201,500 Monrovia Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita, leading from gate to wire and outclassing seven rivals en route to a 3-1/2 length victory. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Munnings, now 9-4-4-0 for trainer Richard Baltas, with $633,400 in earnings. Consigned by Coastal Equine LLC (Jesse Hoppel), Agent, to the 2019 OBS April Sale, she went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5. watch her under tack video

Shea D Boy’s Stable’s Shea D Summer led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Gulfstream’s $75,000 Game Face Stakes on Saturday, taking the lead at the start and never looking back on her way to a 2-1/2 length win. It’s the second stakes victory for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Summer Front. Competitive Speed (June ’20) closed for second; Mon Petit Chou (April ’20) settled for third.  She was sold for $35,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2020 Spring Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5. Magnifico Stable’s unbeaten Australasia is now six for six after closing with a rush to catch frontrunning fellow OBS graduate Bella Sofia (June ‘20) in deep stretch and score by a length in Belmont’s $144,500 Jersey Girl Stakes on Sunday. Oak Tree Stable’s Offspring sat just off the early leaders in Saturday’s Louisiana Legends Turf Distaff Stakes (taken off the turf) at Evangeline Downs, rallied in the stretch to take command a furlong from home and was best by a length and three quarters at the wire.  It’s the second straight stakes win for the 5-year-old daughter of Into Mischief, who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before she was purchased for $130,000 out of the Top Line Sales consignment at the 2018 OBS June Sale.  Now trained by Edward Johnston, she’s now 18-5-5-2 and has earned $219,478 to date. watch her under tack video

Sterling Racing LLC’s Whatmakessammyrun moved between horses to reach contention in Sunday’s $82,650 Desert Code Stakes at Santa Anita, took over with an eighth to run and drew off to win by 3-3/4 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by We Miss Artie, now 8-3-1-2 with $139,610 in earnings for trainer Mark Glatt. Rupp Racing’s Gagetown turned in a sustained stretch run in Friday’s $50,00 Prairie Mile Stakes at Prairie Meadows and got up late to score by a neck. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old colt by Exaggerator, consigned by All In Line Stables to the 2020 OBS Spring Sale where he breezed an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before going through the ring.
