Last Judgment captures Tampa Bay Downs’ Challenger Stakes

Michael Dubb, Steve Hornstock, Bethlehem Stables LLC and Nice Guys Stables’ Last Judgment took the lead at the start of Saturday’s $100,000 Challenger Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs and never looked back, cruising to victory by 2-1/4 lengths. It’s first graded win and second stakes score for the 5-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Congrats, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was purchased for $300,000 out of the Bobby Dodd consignment at the 2018 OBS Spring Sale. Now 16-7-0-1 for trainer Mike Maker, he has earned $333,365 to date. watch his under tack video

Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables LLC, Darsan Inc., Bethlehem Stables and David Simon’s A Bit of Both led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $75,000 Captiva Island Stakes, staying wide and off the pace early, charging on the outside down the stretch and getting up late to score by half a length over Miss Auramet (April ’18, October ’17), with Tracy Ann’s Legacy (June ’18) another length back in third. It’s the fourth stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Paynter, trained by Mike Maker, now 18-10-2-1 with earnings of $433,253. Lea Farms LLC’s Willy Boi battled for the lead between horses in the early going of the $75,000 Hutcheson Stakes, took charge a quarter mile from home and eased away down the stretch to victory by a length and three quarters. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred son of Uncaptured, sold for $40,000 by breeder Ocala Stud as a two-year-old in training at the 2020 OBS October Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. Oak Tree Stable’s Offspring, off the pace and wide early in the $60,000 Red Camelia Stakes on Saturday at Fair Grounds, came around horses to take command after turning for home and eased away to score by a length and three quarters. It’s the first stakes win for the 5-year-old daughter of Into Mischief, now 17-4-5-2 with earnings of $177,478 for trainer Joe Sharp. She worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before she was purchased for $130,000 out of the Top Line Sales consignment at the 2018 OBS June Sale.  watch her under tack video

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum’s Panadol is two for two and a stakes winner after leading from start to finish and holding on gamely to a three quarter length victory the $150,000 Al Bastakiya Stakes at Meydan on Saturday. The 3-year-old colt by Flatter, consigned to the 2020 OBS Spring Sale by Ocala Stud, Agent, was sold for $180,000 to Cromwell Bloodstock, Agent, after breezing a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show.
