Candy Man Rocket takes Tampa Bay’s Sam F. Davis Stakes

Frank Fletcher Racing Operations, Inc.’s Candy Man Rocket stalked the early leaders three wide in the $200,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs, surged to take command a quarter mile from home, opened daylight in the stretch and held off a late run to win by a length. It was the stakes debut for the 3-year-old colt by Candy Ride (ARG), trained by Bill Mott, now 3-2-0-0 with $144,824 in earnings. Consigned to the 2020 OBS Spring Sale by Six K’s Training & Sales, he was sold for $250,000 after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat. watch his under tack video   Spring Sale walking video

Ed Orr and Susie Orr’s Boldor, rated off the pace early in Oaklawn’s $150,000 King Cotton Stakes, came wide after straightening away in the lane, took over inside the final sixteenth and was best by a length over fellow OBS graduate Seven Nation Army (March ’17, June ’17). That’s two straight stakes wins for the 5-year-old son of Munnings, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was purchased for $700,000 out of the Randy Miles consignment at the 2018 OBS April Sale. Now 14-5-2-1 for trainer Steve Asmussen, he has earned $335,197 to date.  watch his under tack video

Breeze Easy LLC’s Curlin’s Catch saved ground in the early going of the $100,000 Suncoast Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, slipped between rivals to take charge turning for home, then drew away down the stretch to score by 4-1/2 lengths. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old daughter of Curlin, trained by Mark Casse, now 4-2-1-0 with earnings of $103,454. After breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5, she was purchased for $430,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2020 OBS Spring Sale. watch her under tack video   Spring Sale walking video
