Last Judgment wins Gulfstream’s Sunshine Classic Stakes

Michael Dubb, Steve Hornstock, Bethlehem Stables LLC and Nice Guys Stables’ Last Judgment went right to the front in Gulfstream’s $75,000 Sunshine Classic Stakes on Saturday and never looked back, drawing off in the stretch to a 6-1/2 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Congrats, trained by Mike Maker, now 14-6-0-1 with $273,365 in earnings. He turned in an Under Tack eighth in:10 flat before he was purchased for $300,000 out of the Bobby Dodd consignment at the 2018 OBS Spring Sale. watch his under tack video

Nedlaw Stable and Morton L. Tobey’s Secret Love tracked the pace from the outside in Aqueduct’s $100,000 Franklin Square Stakes, took command after straightening away in the stretch and scored by a length and a half. It was the stakes debut for the 3-year-old daughter of Not This Time, now 3-2-1-0 for trainer John Kimmel, with $98,000 in earnings. The two-time OBS graduate was sold by Sequel New York, Agent, at the 2019 Fall Mixed Sale and then breezed an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5 prior to being purchased for $270,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2020 OBS July Sale. watch her under tack video    July sale walking video

 

OBS grads posted two stakes wins on Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs.

J D Farms’ Special Princess, last early in $125,000 Gasparilla Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, came off the rail, circled horses on the turn, and kept on coming to get up in the final stride to finish in a dead heat for the victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Bahamian Squall, consigned by Bobby Jones Equine to the 2019 OBS Fall Mixed Sale. Now 7-2-1-1 for trainer Walter Woodard, she has earned $70,275 to date.

Sonata Stable’s Lucky Stride was rated off the pace in the $50,000 Wayward Lass Stakes, rallied steadily to reach contention, took the lead in the final furlong and drew away late to win by 2-1/4 lengths. It’s the first stakes win in North America for the 5-year-old mare by Declaration of War, a multiple graded stakes winner at three in Puerto Rico. Trained by Mike Trombetta, she’s now 16-9-4-1 with $171,550 in earnings. Consigned to the 2018 June Sale by Randy Miles, Agent, she was sold for $7,000 after an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch her under tack video
