Unbeaten Yaupon heads parade of OBS weekend stakes winners

William & Corinne Heiligbrodt’s unbeaten Yaupon is three for three and a graded stakes winner after a two length wire to wire victory in Saratoga’s $150,000 Amsterdam Stakes (G2) on Saturday.  The 3-year-old colt by Uncle Mo went right to the front, opened daylight on the turn, drew off to a long lead in the stretch and was in hand in the final sixteenth. Fellow OBS graduate Premier Star (June ’19) checked in third.

Yaupon is the second straight OBS graduate to win the Amsterdam (G2), and thirteenth overall. Shancelot turned in a sensational victory last year, preceded by Coal Front (2017), Mind Your Biscuits (2016), Currency Swap (2012), Kodiak Kowboy (2008), Santana Strings (2005), Bwana Charlie (2004), City Zip (2001), Personal First (2000), Successful Appeal (1999), Oro de Mexico (1997) and Evil Bear (1993).

Consigned to the 2019 OBS June Sale by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent,  Yaupon was purchased by East Hickman Bloodstock for $255,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Trained by Steve Asmussen, he has earned $168,264 to date.   watch his under tack video

Tom Kagele’s C Z Rocket stalked the leaders in Del Mar’s $151,000 Pat O’Brien Stakes (G2) on Saturday, rallied on the outside down the stretch and was up in the final strides for a half length victory. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 6-year-old Florida-bred son of City Zip, purchased out of the Stephens Thoroughbred consignment at the 2016 OBS June Sale for a then sale record $800,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Now trained by Peter Miller, he has compiled a 21-8-1-2 record and has earned $431,641. watch his under tack video

 

D. J. Stable’s Chart sat just off the lead in Saturday’s $130,000 Ontario Colleen Stakes (G3) at Woodbine, fought to the lead in the lane and held on gamely to score by a head in a three horse photo. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Lea, trained by Mark Casse, now 6-3-1-0 with $110,269 in earnings. Consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, to the 2019 OBS April Sale, she breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show before she was sold for $120,000. watch her under tack video

Team Hanley’s Captain Bombastic collided with fellow OBS graduate Dream Bigger (April ’19) at the start of Friday’s $97,000 New York Stallion Stakes at Saratoga, battled him until taking command a furlong from home and beat him to the wire by 5-1/4 lengths. It’s the third stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Forty Tales, consigned to the 2019 OBS March Sale by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent for Chester & Mary Broman, and sold for $80,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Baoma Corporation’s Message set the pace in the $77,500 Tranquility Lake Stakes at Del Mar on Friday, was headed at the eighth pole but came again late to finish in a dead heat for the victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Warrior’s Reward, who turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before she was purchased for $300,000 out of the Brick City Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2018 OBS April Sale. Palm Beach Racing’s Hot Blooded saved ground early, came out after the leaders, took over after turning for home and captured Saturday’s $75,000 Proud Man Stakes at Gulfstream by 2-1/4 lengths, with fellow OBS graduate Castle King (March ’20, October ’19) checking in third. That two wins in three starts for the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Declaration of War, with $84,640 in earnings for trainer Carlos David. Daniel Pita’s Princess Secret scored her first stakes victory in Saturday’s $200,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Susan’s Girl Stakes, pressing the pace, taking charge a half mile out and winning by three quarters of a length. Trained by her owner, the 2-year-old Florida-bred filly is now 4-2-2-0 and has earned $194,300. She was purchased for $30,000 out of the Journeyman Bloodstock consignment at the 2019 October Selected Yearling Sale.  selected sale walking video

Paradise Farm Corp., Terry Raymond and Jana Wagner’s Relentless Dancer rated off the pace in Friday’s $100,000 Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes at Charles Town, circled horses to reach contention and rallied in the stretch to score by half a length. That’s three stakes wins for the 3-year-old son of Midshipman, trained by Mike Maker, now 10-4-0- with $216,738 in earnings. John Pinkerton’s Black Ops defended his title in Albuquerque’s $55,000 Budweiser Special Handicap on Saturday, circling horses on the turn and surging past the leaders in deep stretch to score by a length and a quarter. It’s the second stakes win for the two time OBS graduate, who went through the ring at the 2015 March Sale and then turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5 prior to being sold for $20,000 by Whitman Sales, Agent, at the 2015 June Sale. watch his under tack video

Juan Arriagada’s Estilo Talentoso took the lead at the start of Sunday’s $60,000 Escena Stakes at Gulfstream and held it to the wire, winning by a length. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old daughter of Maclean’s Music, trained by her owner, now 9-2-6-1 with earnings of $109,038.
