Quartet of Saturday wins for OBS Class of 2020

The OBS 2-Year-Old class of 2020 had a big day on Saturday, posting four wins from Florida to California to New York.

Zedan Racing Stables Inc.’s 2020 OBS Spring Sale topper Princess Noor made her debut for trainer Bob Baffert on Saturday at Del Mar in a $55,000 5-1/2 furlong Maiden Special test. The 2-year-old daughter of Not This Time bounced to the lead out of the gate and never looked back, effortlessly opening up down the stretch and winning in hand by 2-1/2 lengths. After turning in the Under Tack Show’s fastest quarter in :20 1/5, she was purchased by Gary Young for $1,350,000 out Top Line Sales consignment. watch her under tack video    watch her walking video

WellSpring Stables’ Ampersand slipped through on the inside turning for home in a $72,000 5-1/2 furlong Maiden Special test at Saratoga, took charge a furlong from home and eased away to a length and a quarter victory. It was the first start for the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Speightster, trained by Phil Serpe. He’s a two time OBS graduate, sold by Kaizen Sales at the 2019 October Yearling Sale and then purchased for $34,000 out of the Potrero Stables consignment at the Spring Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :22 flat. watch his under tack video  watch his walking video

Kent Spellman and Madaket Stables LLC’s Nautilus took the early lead in a $72,000 seven furlong Maiden Special at Saratoga, surrendered it on the turn, then came again between horses in the stretch and was best by a head at the wire. The 2-year-old son of Cairo Prince, trained by Brad Cox, was sold for $130,000 by Kings Equine, Agent, at the March Sale after working an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

 

 

Lowwood Farm LLC and Fernando Abreu’s Mon Petit Chou tracked the leader in a 5-1/2 furlong Maiden Special at Gulfstream, wore her down in the lane and was best by three quarters of a length for trainer Fernando Abreu. The 2-year-old filly by The Big Beast was purchased for $110,000 by Lowwood Farm from breeder Ocala Stud at the Spring Sale after she breezed a quarter in :20 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video    watch her walking video

The older division had its day at Monmouth on Sunday, when Crawford Farms Racing’s 2019 OBS Sprint winner Archidust saved ground early in the $79,500 Get Serious Stakes, swung out for the drive, wore down the leaders and was up in the final yards to score by a head. It’s his second straight stakes victory for trainer Steve Asmussen, leaving him with six stakes wins, a 14-7-1-3 career record and $353,400 in earnings. The 4-year-old son of Verrazano was consigned to the 2018 OBS March Sale by Whitman Sales LLC, Agent, and purchased for $300,000 by Juan Pacanins, Agent, after breezing an Under Tack eighth in:10 flat. watch his under tack video
