Wells Bayou wins Louisiana Derby

Clint Gasaway, Lance Gasaway, Madaket Stables LLC and Wonder Stables’ Wells Bayou joined the leaders of the 3-year-old division on Saturday, taking the lead shortly after the start of the $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby (G2) at Fair Grounds and never looking back en route to victory by a length and a half. It’s the first stakes win for the son of Lookin At Lucky, now 5-3-1-0 with $845,293 in earnings for trainer Brad Cox. Consigned by Whitman Sales, Agent, to the 2019 OBS March Sale, he was purchased by Lance Gasaway for $105,000 after turning in an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

The 2019 Louisiana Derby (G2) winner, Allied Racing Stable, LLC’s By My Standards, returned for the $400,000 New Orleans Classic Stakes (G2) and sat just off the pace, took over after turning for home and eased away to a three length victory. It’s the second stakes win for the 4-year old colt by OBS graduate Goldencents, trained by Bret Calhoun, now 8-4-2-1 and closing in on a million with $921,910 in earnings. Consigned to the 2018 OBS April Sale by Scanlon Training & Sales, Agent, he was sold to J. Stevens Bloodstock, Agent, for $150,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5. watch his under tack video

Gaining Ground Racing LLC’s Factor This went right to the front in the $300,000 Muniz Memorial Classic and stayed there to the wire, drawing away in the stretch to a three length victory. It’s the second straight graded stakes score and third stakes win for the 5-year-old horse by The Factor, purchased for $11,000 out of the Niall Brennan Stables consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Also trained by Brad Cox, he’s now 28-9-3-4 and has earned $725,030 to date. watch his under tack video

William and Corrine Heiligbrodt’s Vacherie Girl was much the best in the $75,000 Crescent City Oaks, coming from off the pace, taking command in the final furlong and drawing off to win by 3-1/2 lengths. That’s two stakes wins for the 3-year-old daughter of Tapiture, trained by Steve Asmussen, now 5-3-0-1 with earnings of $143,307. A two time OBS graduate, she was sold first by Pelican State Thoroughbreds as a yearling at the 2018 Winter Mixed Sale and then purchased for $87,000 out of the Paul Sharp consignment at the 2019 June Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch her under tack video

Ivery Sisters Racing’s Monte Man stalked the pace in the $75,000 Costa Rising Stakes, battled for the lead in the stretch and proved best by a length at the finish. It’s the seventh stakes win for the 7-year-old gelding by Custom for Carlos, winner of the 2018 renewal of the Costa Rising and second in the race last year. Sold for $125,000 by Royal Thoroughbred International at the 2015 OBS March Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5, he’s now 39-14-7-5 for trainer Ron Faucheux, and has earned $582,441 to date. watch his under tack video

Cara Oliver’s Hear My Prayer led from gate to wire in Saturday’s $75,000 Melody of Colors Stakes at Gulfstream, drawing clear in the stretch and winning by a length and three quarters. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by The Big Beast, trained by David Fisher, now 5-3-0-0 with earnings of $90,310. Consigned by Camelot Acres Racing and Sales, Agent, she went through the ring at the 2018 OBS October Yearling Sale.

B.C.W.T. Ltd.’s Long Weekend scored a wire to wire victory in the $90,000 Gazebo Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, opening up in the stretch and cruising to a 4-3/4 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old son of Majesticperfection, purchased for $225,000 by Lauren Carlisle, Agent, out of the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2019 OBS April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :20 3/5. Now 4-3-0-0 for trainer Tom Amoss, he has earned $133,928 to date. watch his under tack video
