Ed Orr and Susie Orr’s Silver Prospector was rated off the pace set by fellow OBS graduate Wells Bayou (March ’19) in the early going of Monday’s $750,000 Southwest Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park, went after the leader after turning for home, took command a furlong out and beat him by a length at the wire. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Declaration of War, who captured Churchill’s Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) last fall. Now 8-3-0-2 for trainer Steve Asmussen, he has earned $713,051 to date.
