Silver Prospector scores in Churchill’s Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes

Ed Orr and Susie Orr’s Silver Prospector stayed just off the pace early in Saturday’s $300,000 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, came around horses for the drive, wore down the leaders to take charge late and eased away to a three quarter length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old colt by Declaration of War, consigned to the 2019 OBS April Sale by Eisaman Equine, Agent, and purchased for $190,000 after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. First Row Partners and Hidden Brook Farm’s Nay Lady Nay (IRE) overcame a rough start, moved four wide to reach contention on the turn, found room between horses a sixteenth out and scored by half a length in Friday’s $300,000 Mrs. Revere Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs. It’s the second straight stakes win for the 3-year-old filly by No Nay Never, trained by Chad Brown, now 5-3-1-0 with $265,180 in earnings. Madaket Stables LLC, Tim Cambron, Anna Cambron and Bradley Thoroughbreds’ Kallio stayed well off the pace in the early going of the $175,000 Cardinal Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs on Thanksgiving Day, circled horses on the turn to reach contention, ran past fellow OBS graduate Starship Jubilee (April ’15, August ’14) a sixteenth from home and beat her to the wire by three lengths. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 before she was purchased for $160,000 out of the Niall Brennan Stables consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale. Alejandro Mercado’s Mugaritz ran his win streak to six in a row in the $101,500 Berkeley Stakes (G3) at Golden Gate on Saturday. After tracking the pace in the early going, he rallied to take charge a furlong out then drew away to a 3-1/3 length victory. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 4-year-old son of Dialed In, trained by Jonathan Wong, five for five this year, with a 13-8-1-0 career record and earnings of $227,125. Paradise Farms Corp. and Mad Dog Racing Stable’s Temple picked up his first stakes victory on Friday in the $150,900 Gio Ponti Stakes at Aqueduct, tracking the early lead, taking command turning for home and holding off a late charge to win by a nose. Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, to the 2018 OBS April Sale, he went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5. Slam Dunk Racing, Doug Branham and Legacy Ranch, Inc.’s Tonalist’s Shape is three for three and a stakes winner after taking charge of the $75,000 Hut Hut Stakes and bounding away down the stretch to a nine length victory. Fellow OBS graduate Ceci Valentina (October ’18) settled for second. It was the stakes debut for the 2-year-old daughter of Tonalist, consigned to the 2019 OBS April Sale by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, where she went through the ring after breezing an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. Teresa and David W. Palmer’s Cheermeister jumped straight from a debut victory in October into the $75,000 Wait a While Stakes and handled winners with ease, leading from gate to wire and scoring by two lengths.
