Twenty Four OBS graduates entered in the Breeders’ Cup

Twenty-four OBS graduates are entered in ten races at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships this Friday and Saturday, November 1st and 2nd at Santa Anita.

Friday’s first race is the $1,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2) and a pair of OBS graduates are on the also eligible list.

Reddam Racing LLC’s well traveled Fore Left, winner of Santa Anita’s Sunny Slope Stakes last time out, took Belmont’s Tremont Stakes in June and was third in the Best Pal (G2) at Del Mar in August. The 2-year-old colt by Twirling Candy was consigned by Wavertree Stables to the 2019 March Sale, and went through the ring after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Trained by Doug O’Neill, he’s now 6-3-0-1 and has earned $199,551 to date. watch his under tack video

Breeze Easy, LLC’s Karak, a world traveler in her own right, returned from a June trip to Royal Ascot and took Monmouth Park’s Tyro Stakes in August. Trained by Wesley Ward, the 2-year-old filly by Karakontie (JPN), the first stakes winner for her sire, is now 4-2-0-0 and earned $104,000. She was sold for $365,000 at the 2019 March Sale by All Dreams Equine, Agent, after breezing an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show.  watch her under tack video

Jeff Drown and Don Rachel’s Structor comes into the race two for two, with a victory in Belmont’s Pilgrim Stakes (G3) in his stakes debut. Trained by Chad Brown, he’ll break from post two under Jose Ortiz. The 2-year-old colt by Palace Malice, who has earned $159,500, was consigned by Pick View LLC, Agent, to the 2019 March Sale and sold for $850,000 after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. watch his under tack video

Super Super Stable’s unbeaten Graceful Kitten is three for three with stakes wins in the Armed Forces and Proud Man Stakes at Gulfstream. The 2-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy breezed an Under Tack quarter in :22 3/5 before he was purchased for $8,500 out of the Eddie Woods consignment at the 2019 April Sale. Trained by Amador Sanchez, he has earned $126,610 to date and will be ridden by regular rider Hector Berrios from post six.  watch his under tack video

Kent Spellman and Madaket Stables LLC’s Andesite, second to Structor in the Pilgrim Stakes (G3) was also third in Saratoga’s With Anticipation Stakes (G3) after winning at first asking in July. The 2-year-old colt by The Factor, trained by Brad Cox, will break from post seven under Joel Rosario. Now 3-1-1-1 with $76,600 in earnings, he was consigned to the 2019 March Sale by Winners Circle Thoroughbreds LLC and sold for $90,000 after an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. watch his under tack video

Rockingham Ranch’s Billy Bats, third in Santa Anita’s Zuma Beach last time out, was also second in Del Mar’s Juvenile Turf Stakes in his previous start. The 2-year-old son of City Zip, trained by Peter Miller, will be ridden from post eight by Paco Lopez.  Purchased for $200,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2019 March Sale after breezing a quarter in :20 4/5, he comes into the race with a 6-1-2-1 record and has earned $84,440. watch his under tack video

Leonard C. Green and Jonathan I. Green’s Proven Strategies was a strong fourth in Woodbine’s Summer Stakes (G1) in his last start after a second place finish in Saratoga’s Skidmore Stakes in his stakes debut. Edgard Zayas will ride the 2-year-old colt by Sky Mesa from post 11 for trainer Mark Casse.  Consigned by Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co., Agent, to the 2019 April Sale, he went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. watch his under tack video

Gary Barber’s Two Sixty will break from post two under Edgard Zayas for trainer Mark Casse. The 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Uncaptured is a two time OBS graduate, sold first by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2018 October Sale before she was purchased for $260,000 out of the SGV Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2019 March Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5. She comes into the race after a 6-1/4 length victory in the FTBOA Florida Sire My Dear Girl Stakes at Gulfstream in September. ERJ Racing LLC, Great Friends Stable LLC, CTR Racing LLC MyRaceHorse Stable, Jerry Caroom et al’s Lazy Daisy is two for three and a graded stakes winner after capturing Pocahontas Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs in her last start. The 2-year-old filly by Paynter is another two time OBS graduate, consigned by First Finds to the 2018 October Yearling Sale before she was purchased for $39,000 out of the Off the Hook consignment at the 2019 April Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Karl Pergola’s K P Dreamin, third in the Chandelier (G1) at Santa Anita last time out, will start from post eight under Ruben Fuentes. The 2-year-old daughter of Union Rags, trained by Jeff Mullins, comes in with a 3-1-0-1 record and $76,260 in earnings. She was sold for $170,000 by Paul Sharp, Agent, at the 2019 April Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5.  watch her under tack video

Tobey L. Morton & Chuck Hovitz’s Crystalle carries the OBS flag in the $1,000,000 Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1). The 2-year-old daughter of Palace Malice broke her maiden in the P. G. Johnson Stakes at Saratoga in August and comes into the race off a sharp second in the Miss Grillo Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park. Now 3-1-1-1 for trainer John Kimmel, she will start from post seven and will be ridden by Joel Rosario. The $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) attracted a pair of OBS graduates.

Exline-Border Racing LLC, David A. Bernsen & Susanna Wilson’s Storm the Court broke his maiden at first asking at Del Mar in August and finished third last out in Santa Anita’s American Pharoah (G1). The 2-year-old son of Court Vision was consigned to the 2019 April Sale by Woodside Ranch, Agent, and worked an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5 before he was purchased for $60,000 by Marette Farrell, Agent for Exline-Border Racing LLC. He’ll start from post four under Flavien Prat for trainer Peter Eurton. Now 3-1-0-1, he has earned $72,951 to date. watch his under tack video

Peter Redekop B. C. Ltd.’s Anneau d’Or comes into the race off an eight length victory at Golden Gate in his only start. The 2-year-old colt by Medaglia d’Oro is trained by Blaine Wright and will start from post seven under Juan Hernandez, who was aboard in his debut.  He was purchased for $480,000 out of the Tom McCrocklin consignment at the 2019 April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. watch his under tack video

McShane Racing LLC’s Stubbins, will start from post five and be ridden by Flavien Prat. The 3-year-old colt by Morning Line comes into the race off his first graded stakes victory in the Woodford Stakes (G2) at Keeneland in October. It was his second stakes win and left him with a 10-4-2-2 record for trainer Doug O’Neill with $418,151 in earnings. Rockingham Ranch and David A. Bernsen LLC’s Stormy Liberal goes for the three-peat in the Turf Sprint (G1) after taking the 2017 renewal at Santa Anita and winning it last year at Churchill Downs. Now seven, the son of Stormy Atlantic has compiled a 36-12-10-4 career record and earned $2,202,580 to date. Trained by Peter Miller, he’ll break from post six with John Velazquez in the irons. Exline-Border Racing LLC, David Bernsen, Garrett Zubok and Gatto Racing LLC’s Giant Expectations graded stakes winning 6-year-old son of Frost Giant comes into the race off a good second in the Pat O’Brien Stakes (G2) at Del Mar. The 2015 March Sale graduate was purchased for $135,000 by Ryan Exline out of the de Meric Sales consignment after turning in an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Robert LaPenta and Head of Plains Partners LLC’s Coal Front will break from post seven and be ridden by Javier Castellano. The multiple graded stakes winning 5-year-old son of Stay Thirsty, trained by Todd Pletcher, comes in off a victory in the Parx Dirt Mile Stakes in September and has compiled a 12-8-0-1 career record and has earned $1,815,280. He breezed an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before he was purchased for $575,000 out of the Kirkwood Stables consignment by Steven W. Bloom Racing Stable’s Snapper Sinclair joined the ranks of OBS millionaires in his last start, a victory in the Tourist Mile Stakes at Kentucky Downs. It was the second stakes score for the 4-year-old colt by City Zip, purchased for $180,000 out of the Randy Miles consignment at the 2017 April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Trained by Steve Asmussen, he’s now 18-5-3-2 and has earned  $1,034,084. He starts in post ten and will be ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr. watch his under tack video

The Eclipse Award for the sprint championship is up for grabs in the $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) and three OBS graduates will go to the post.

William & Corrine Heiligbrodt’s Mitole comes in off a victory in Saratoga’s Forego Stakes (G1) in a stakes record 1:20 4/5 for seven furlongs, after taking the Metropolitan (G1) and Churchill Downs (G1) Handicaps earlier in the year. The 4-year-old colt by Eskendereya was consigned to the 2017 April Sale by Grassroots Training & Sales and sold for $140,000 after an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. He’ll be ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr., and will break from post four. Crawford Farms Racing’s Shancelot hit the headlines this summer winning Saratoga’s Amsterdam Stakes (G2) by 12-1/2 lengths in 1:14 flat for six and one half furlongs. The 3-year-old colt by Shanghai Bobby comes into the race off photo finish defeats in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G1) and H. Allen Jerkens Stakes (G1) at Saratoga. Charles Fipke’s multiple graded stakes winning Seeking the Soul brings a 29-7-6-7 career mark and earnings of $3,354,153 into the Classic. He’s been to the Dubai World Cup (G1) and back and captured the Stephen Foster Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs this June. Brian Joseph Hernandez Jr. gets the riding assignment from trainer Dallas Stewart and the 6-year-old son of Perfect Soul (IRE) will break from post two.
