OBS grads take Finger Lakes’ New York Derby and Oaks

OBS graduates won both stakes for 3-year-olds at Finger Lakes on Wednesday.

Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC and Willis Horton Racing LLC’s Bankit rallied on the turn to reach contention in the stretch of the $150,000 New York Derby, split horses to take the lead a furlong out and drew clear late to win by a length and a quarter. It’s the second stakes victory for the 3-year-old colt by Central Banker, consigned to the 2018 OBS March Sale by SGV Thoroughbreds LLC (Steven Venosa), Agent, where he breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 before he was purchased by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC for $260,000. Richie Rich Racing Stable and Jackie Stauffer’s Wait a Minute scored her first stakes victory in the $75,000 New York Oaks, setting the pace from the start, turning back a challenge on the turn and easing away in the stretch to win by two lengths. Trained by Jackie Stauffer, the 3-year-old filly by Discreetly Mine is now 6-3-1-0 and has earned $83,329 to date. She breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 before she was purchased for $10,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2018 June Sale. watch her under tack video
