Royal Squeeze scores in Gulfstream’s Big Drama Stakes

Imaginary Stables and Glenn Ellis’ Royal Squeeze sat just off the early lead in Saturday’s $100,000 Big Drama Stakes at Gulfstream, overcame traffic trouble before taking the lead into the stretch and then eased away to score by a length and a quarter. Fellow OBS graduate Mr. Jordan (April ’14, August ’13) rallied from last of nine to finish third. It’s the third stakes win for the 7-year-old Florida-bred son of Wildcat Heir, trained by Elizabeth Dobles, now 34-9-3-5 with $443,672 in earnings. He turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased for $310,000 out of the Pleasant Acres Farm consignment at the 2014 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

Michael Fazio and Jeff Fazio’s Joevia took the lead at the start of Monmouth’s $100,000 Long Branch Stakes on Sunday, battled head and head until turning for home then drew off down the stretch and was best by 2-3/4 lengths. It’s the first stakes score for the 3-year-old colt by Shanghai Bobby, trained by Greg Sacco, now 5-2-2-0 with earnings of $131,600.  Consigned to the 2018 OBS April Sale by Scanlon Training & Sales, Agent, he was sold for $32,000 after an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5. watch his under tack video

Roddy Harrison’s Change of Control tried stakes company for the first time in Churchill’s $102,366 Mamzelle Overnight Stakes on Saturday. She trailed early, circled horses on the turn, ran past the leader a sixteenth from home and won by a length and three quarters. The 3-year-old daughter of Fed Biz was purchased for $95,000 out of the Kaizen Sales consignment at the 2017 OBS October Selected Sale of Yearlings. Mark Norman and Norman Stables LLC’s Taylor’s Spirit chased the pacesetter in Friday night’s $50,925 Goldfinch Stakes at Prairie Meadows into the stretch, took over inside the final furlong and drew away to win by a length and a quarter. That’s four stakes wins for the 3-year-old filly by Algorithms, sold for $80,000 by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, at the 2018 OBS April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Now 10-5-2-1 for trainer Scott Gelner, she has earned $191,730 to date. watch her under tack video
