$1-million Quality Road filly tops Spring Sale’s second session

Hip No. 444, a daughter of Quality Road consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was purchased by Narvick International for $1-million to top the second session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. Hip No. 321, a bay colt by Tiznow consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, who worked a quarter in :21 flat at Tuesday’s Under Tack session, went to Solis / Litt for $600,000. A half brother to grade one stakes winner Promises Fulfilled, he’s out of graded stakes placed Marquee Delivery, by Marquetry.

Hip No. 453, a son of Speightstown consigned by Scanlon Training & Sales, Agent for Excel Bloodstock (Bruno DeBerdt), was sold to Lael Stable for $585,000. The bay colt, whose eighth on Wednesday in :9 4/5 was the day’s co-fastest, is a full brother to grade one stakes winner Lighthouse Bay out of Pay Lady, by Seeking the Gold.

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners went to $550,000 for Hip No. 368, a son of Palace Malice consigned by Old South Farm LLC, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Tuesday, is a half brother to stakes winner Daddy Justice out of Moon Beamy, by Malibu Moon.

Hip No. 332, a son of Curlin consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was purchased by Frank Fletcher Racing for $525,000. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 on Tuesday, is out of graded stakes placed Mekong Delta, by Stormy Atlantic, a full sister to champion Leonnatus Anteas.

Hip No. 365, a daughter of Commissioner consigned by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds LLC, went to Solis / Litt for $475,000.  The bay filly, whose quarter in :20 1/5 on Tuesday was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of Money Madness, by Rahy, a half sister to stakes placed Feminine Girl.

Linda Rice, Agent for D J Stable, paid $475,000 for Hip No. 445, a son of  American Pharoah who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 on Wednesday. The chestnut colt, consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent, is out of Parris Hill, by A. P. Indy, a half sister to grade one stakes winner Take Charge Lady.

Hip No. 532, a daughter of Carpe Diem consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was sold to Phoenix Thoroughbred (III) Ltd. for $475,000. The chestnut filly, whose quarter in :20 3/5 was Wednesday’s fastest at the distance, is out of Rebuke, by Carson City, a half sister to stakes winner Summer Cruise.

Hip No. 422, a daughter of Karakontie (JPN) consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, went to Klaravich Stable, Inc., for $460,000. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Wednesday, is a half sister to stakes winner Street Storm out of stakes placed Oblivious, by Cozzene.

Hip No. 312, a daughter of Paynter consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, went to Mike Ryan, Agent, for $450,000. The bay filly, who worked an eighth in :10 flat at Tuesday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes placed Mallory Street, by Street Sense, a half sister to stakes placed Eloquent Tribute.

Canary Bloodstock paid $450,000 for Hip No. 352, an Empire Maker filly who breezed a quarter in :21 1/5 on Tuesday. Consigned by Brick City Thoroughbreds, Agent, she’s a half sister to stakes placed Sugar Queen out of Miss Patricia, by Indian Charlie.

Hip No. 357, a chestnut filly by Union Rags consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to White Birch Farm, Inc. for $440,000. The half sister to graded stakes winner Secret Gypsy, who turned in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5 on Tuesday, is out of Miss Utada, by Rahy.

Hip No. 478, a bay filly by Danza consigned by Best A Luck Farm LLC, Agent, was sold for $400,000 to Sheikh Rashid Humaid Al Noaimi. The half sister to stakes winner I Got It All, whose eighth on Wednesday in : 9 4/5 was the day’s co-fastest, is out of Polish Silk, by Polish Pro.

Hip No. 517, a daughter of Bayern consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, went to Ben McElroy, Agent for KSI, for $400,000. The bay filly, whose eighth on Wednesday in :9 4/5 was the session’s co-fastest, is out of Queenie Cat, by Storm Cat, a half sister to champion Vindication.

For the day, 171 horses sold for a total of $22,360,500 compared to 191 bringing $19,478,500 at the corresponding session a year ago. The average was $130,763, up 28.2% compared with $101,982 in 2018 while the median price was $80,000, up 45% compared to $55,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 21.6%; it was 17.7% in 2018.
