Spring Sale catalog now online

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 Spring Sale of Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com. The online catalog’s main page contains a link to a sortable master index providing searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed.

The sortable master index has been updated with advanced search and filter capability to allow shortlist creation. A link to instructions for using the new features can be found in the index header.

The iPad version of the catalog can be accessed via the equineline Sales Catalog App. The App allows users to download and view the catalog, receive updates and results, record notes and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capability. A total of 1,221 juveniles have been cataloged for the four-day sale, set for Tuesday through Friday, April 23rd – 26th with all sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. Hips 1-304 will sell on Tuesday, Hips 305- 608 on Wednesday, Hips 609-912 will be offered Thursday and Hips 913-1221 on Friday.

The Under Tack Show will span six days, beginning Monday, April 15th and continuing through Saturday, April 20th. Hips 1-203 will breeze Monday, Hips 204-406 go on Tuesday, Hips 407-608 on Wednesday, Hips 609-813 go Thursday, Hips 814-1017 on Friday and Hips 1018-1221 go on Saturday. All six sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN and Blood-Horse websites.

The Spring Sale has grown exponentially in stature, and is now firmly established as a leading international marketplace. Its graduates have won races at the highest level all over the world.

Shadai Farm, J Stables LLC, Head of Plains Partners LLC, Scott M. Summers, Daniel Summers, Chad Summers and Michael E. Kisber’s Mind Your Biscuits is a prime example with his six graded stakes wins including back to back victories against the world’s best sprinters in the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1). The 5-year-old son of Posse was consigned by SBM Training and Sales, Agent, to the 2015 OBS Spring Sale, where he went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5. Featured on the covers of both books of the Spring Sale catalog are recent graduates Midnight Bisou and Shamrock Rose, first and third this past Saturday in Oaklawn’s Azeri Stakes (G2).

It was the seventh graded stakes win for the Bloom Racing Stable, Madaket Stables LLC and Allen Racing LLC’s Midnight Bisou, who has captured graded stakes at Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Parx, Santa Anita and Sam Houston. The 4-year-old daughter of Midnight Lute was consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds to the 2017 Sale, where she breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before she was purchased by Jeffrey Bloom for $80,000. Conrad Farms’ Shamrock Rose settled for third in the Azeri (G2) but her four race win streak at the end of 2018 ended with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) and the Eclipse Award as the year’s Champion Female Sprinter. The 4-year-old daughter of First Dude, trained by Mark Casse, is now 12-5-2-2 with $959,962 in earnings. Sold for $120,000 by Best A Luck Farm LLC, Agent, at the 2017 Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, she’s the second OBS graduate to win the Filly and Mare Sprint, following in the footsteps of April Sale graduate Musical Romance, who captured the 2011 renewal. watch her under tack video

Robert LaPenta and Head of Plains Partners LLC’s Coal Front is a four time graded stakes winner, his latest a victory in the $500,000 Razorback Handicap (G3) on President’s Day. The 5-year-old son of Stay Thirsty is now 8-6-0-0 and has earned $777,280 to date for trainer Todd Pletcher. He was purchased for $575,000 by Steven W. Young on behalf of Mr. LaPenta at the 2016 Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. watch his under tack video

Winner of the Sovereign Award as Canada’s Champion 2-year-old filly, Gary Barber’s Wonder Gadot has gone on to compile a 17-5-5-4 career record and earn $1,509,861 for trainer Mark Casse. She scored graded wins at Woodbine and Aqueduct at two and took the first two legs of Canada’s Triple Crown against the boys at three. Now four, the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro was purchased for $325,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2017 Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5.  watch her under tack video

In his abbreviated career, Klaravich Stables and William H. Lawrence’s Patternrecognition, was a top class race horse, winning a pair of graded stakes including Aqueduct’s prestigious Cigar Mile Handicap (G1). The Florida-bred son of Adios Charlie, trained by Chad Brown, retired with a 12-5-5-0 record and earnings of $1,012,325. He turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before he was purchased for $420,000 out of the Ocala Stud consignment at the 2015 Sale.  watch his under tack video

In all, since the beginning of 2018, 66 Spring Sale graduates won or placed 111 times in graded stakes, with 17 accounting for 27 graded wins. A total of 178 have won or placed 360 times in stakes races with 70 amassing 107 stakes victories.
