Record colt by Tapit tops March Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 33, Chestertown, a son of Tapit consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent for Chester & Mary Broman, went to L.E.B. Agent for West Point, Masiello, Siena Farm, for $2,000,000, to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. The gray or roan colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at Thursday’s Under Tack session, is out of grade one stakes winner Artemis Agrotera, by Roman Ruler, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Indy Glory. Hip No. 194, a son of Pioneerof the Nile consigned by Hoby & Layna Kight, Agent, went to OXO Equine LLC for $1,200,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed a quarter on Friday in :21 1/5, is out of stakes placed Golden Artemis, by Malibu Moon, and is a a half brother to grade one stakes winner My Conquestadory, dam of Bourbon War, on the Derby trail after his second placed finish in the recent Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park.  under tack video 

Phoenix Thoroughbred (III) Ltd. went to $825,000 for Hip No. 240, a dark bay or brown colt by Bernardini whose Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5 on Friday was co-fastest at the distance. Consigned by King’s Equine, Agent, he’s a half brother to stakes winner Roan Inish out of graded stakes winning Canadian champion Inish Glora, by Regal Classic. under tack video 

Hip No. 147, a daughter of Candy Ride (ARG) consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for $675,000. The dark bay or brown filly, a half sister to champion Drefong out of Eltimaas, by Ghostzapper, breezed an eighth in:10 flat on Thursday.  under tack video 

Hip No. 92, a daughter Speightstown consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Narvick Int’l-HRH Prince Sultan Bin Mishal Al Saud, for $650,000. The chestnut filly, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, is out of graded stakes placed C J’s Leelee, by Mizzen Mast.   under tack video 

Hip No. 169, a bay filly by American Pharoah who sped a quarter in :20 4/5 at Thursday’s Under Tack session, also went to Narvick Int’l-HRH Prince Sultan Bin Mishal Al Saud, for $600,000. Consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, she’s out of stakes winner Flattermewithroses, by Flatter, from the family of graded stakes winner Fluttery Danseur.  under tack video 

KSI, Ben McElroy, Agent, went to $550,000 for Hip No. 81, a son of Jus in Phillip consigned by Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co., Inc., Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, whose Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest on Thursday, is out of Cersei, by Malibu Moon, a daughter of grade one stakes winner Oh What a Windfall. under tack video

Spendthrift Farm LLC paid $550,000 for Hip No. 102, a son of Into Mischief consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent. The bay colt, who worked a quarter in :21 1/5 on Thursday, is a half brother to stakes placed OBS graduate Orecchiette out of graded stakes placed Corderosa, by Aldebaran. under tack video

Hip No. 24, an Irish-bred daughter of No Nay Never consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was purchased by Jonathan Thomas, Agent, for $525,000. The bay filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at Thursday’s Under Tack session, is out of Anestasia, by Anabaa, a full sister to grade one stakes winner Amonita (GB).  under tack video

For the session, 144 horses sold for a total of $22,134,000, compared with 129 bringing a total of $20,327,000 last year. The average was $153,708 compared to $157,574 in 2018 while the median price was $83,500 compared with $95,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 29.8%; it was 30.3% in 2018.

The March Sale continues Wednesday, March 13th at 10:30 a.m. with Hip No.’s 289 – 577 set to go through the ring.
