March Sale begins on Tuesday

The 2019 OBS March Sale of Two Year Olds in Training begins Tuesday, March 12th. Hip No.’s 1 – 288 will sell Tuesday and Hip No.’s 287 – 577 will be offered Wednesday, March 13th. Both sessions will begin at 10:30 a.m. As always the sale will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com and the Blood-Horse, DRF and TDN websites.

The catalog can be viewed via the OBS website at http://obssales.com. The website’s searchable and sortable master index provides links to past performances, under tack videos, pedigree and consignor information as well as pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. It has also been updated to allow shortlist creation.

The March Sale’s latest graded stakes winner is Misty Hollow Farm’s Drafted, winner of the $300,000 Mahab Al Shimaal Stakes (G3) at Meydan on Saturday. It’s the second straight graded stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Field Commission, trained by Doug Watson, now 12-6-1-0 with earnings of $551,633. The two time OBS graduate went through the ring at the 2015 August Sale before he was purchased for $35,000 out of the Kim Harrison consignment at the 2016 March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch his under tack video   watch a video of the race

Honors for the fastest eighth at the three-day Under Tack Show went to Hip No. 418, a son of The Big Beast consigned by L.G., Agent, who stopped the timer in :9 3/5 on Saturday. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Raebear, by Our Emblem, a half sister to graded stakes placed Speed Hawk.

Two youngsters shared honors for the Under Tack Show’s quickest quarter, each clocked in : 20 2/5. At Friday’s session it was Hip No. 305, a daughter of Super Saver consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent. The chestnut filly is out of graded stakes placed OBS graduate Macha, by Majestic Warrior, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Maldita Primavera.

That time was equaled on Saturday by Hip No. 399, Angelcents, consigned by Blazing Meadows Farm LLC, Agent. The bay filly by OBS graduate Goldencents is out of Pomeroy Angel, by Pomeroy, a half sister to stakes winner City Sage.

Several of the horses in the sale have enjoyed significant updates to their pedigrees since the catalog was printed:

OBS graduate Killybegs Captain won the Pelican Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs in February and was second in Tampa’s Challenger Stales on Saturday. He’s a half brother to Hip No. 18, a colt by Cross Traffic consigned by Southern Chase Farm, Inc. (Greg & Karen Dodd), Agent.

Hip No 36, a colt by Super Saver consigned by King’s Equine, Agent, has a newly stakes placed half brother in Life of Illusion, second in the Bold Ego Handicap at Sunland Park in February.

Hip No. 152, a filly by Declaration of War consigned by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, is a half sister to Qabala, by Scat Daddy, who broke her maiden at first asking in a maiden special at Newmarket.

Lady T N T, second in the Dixie Belle at Oaklawn in February, is a full sister to Hip No. 217, a colt by Justin Phillip consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent.

Stakes winner Regal Glory, a half sister to Hip No. 319, an American Pharoah colt consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, added graded status to her resume with a second in Gulfstream’s recent Sweetest Chant Stakes (G3).

Hip No. 387, a Tapiture filly consigned by S B M Training and Sales, Agent, added a newly minted stakes placed half sister when Joevia was second in Aqueduct’s Jimmy Winkfield Stakes.

OBS March graduate Stubbins, winner of the recent Pasadena Stakes at Santa Anita, is a half brother to Hip No. 468, a Goldencents filly consigned by Hemingway Racing and Training Stables LLC, Agent.

Hip No. 503, a New Year’s Day colt consigned by Parrish Farms, Agent, is a half brother to Stormy Embrace, who added a third in Gulfstream’s Hurricane Bertie Stakes (G3) in January.

Winter Sunset, third in yesterday’s Florida Oaks (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs, is a half sister to Hip No. 574, a filly by Tapit consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent.

Under Tack results and videos are posted on the OBS website at obssales.com and can be viewed on kiosks in the breezeway and in the Video Room adjacent to the Horsemen’s Lounge. In-room viewing is available at The Courtyard by Marriott, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton.
