The March Sale is now online

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com.

A total of 577 juveniles have been cataloged for the two-day sale, set for Tuesday and Wednesday, March 12th and 13th, with both sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Under Tack Show will span three days, beginning Thursday, March 7th with Hips 1 – 192. Hips 193 – 384 will breeze Friday, March 8th and Hips 385 – 577 will go Saturday, March 9th. All three sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the TDN, DRF and Blood-Horse websites.

March graduates have provided value at all price levels. Graded stakes winner Take Charge Paula, a $50,000 purchase in 2017, earned over $450,000. Multiple graded stakes winner Blended Citizen, sold for $85,000, provided a return of over $400,000. Multiple graded winner Collected brought $170,000 in 2015 and earned nearly $3-million. Graded stakes winner Analyze It went for $190,000 in 2017 and earned over $750,000. Horses are cataloged from all over the country, and buyers will find 92 Florida-breds and 79 New York-breds in the 2019 sale.

“Since we expanded the sale format in 2015, March has really become a much broader marketplace,” said OBS director of sales Tod Wojciechowski. “We were able to add a group of precocious horses in addition to the select type horses they already expect in March. All you have to do is look at the list of runners that have come out of this sale over the past few years to see that quality horses come in all different types and price ranges.”

The OBS March Sale has produced six champions, 29 millionaires and seven Breeders’ Cup victories. Since the beginning of 2018, 105 OBS March graduates have won or placed 207 times in stakes races including 82 graded events.

The 2018 March Sale produced a trio of high class runners including Breeze Easy LLC’s unbeaten globetrotter Shang Shang Shang who won at first asking at Keeneland for trainer Wesley Ward then flew to Royal Ascot and led all the way to win the Norfolk Stakes (G2) against the boys. The 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Shanghai Bobby is a two time OBS graduate, purchased out of the SBM Training & Sales consignment by Breeze Easy for $200,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5. She had been sold previously as a short yearling by Summerfield at the 2017 Winter Mixed Sale. watch her under tack video

OBS March made its presence felt at the prestigious Saratoga meeting when Lee Pokoik’s Sippican Harbor scored a 17-length maiden victory and followed it ten days later by charging from far off the pace to take the $350,000 Spinaway Stakes (G1) by two lengths. Gary Contessa trains the now 3-year-old daughter of Orb. Consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, she turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch her under tack video

Hollendorfer LLC, Pearl Racing and West Point Thoroughbreds’ Gunmetal Gray was unveiled at Del Mar where he broke his maiden in his second start. He followed it with a second to champion Game Winner in Santa Anita’s American Pharoah Stakes (G1) in September. Starting down the Derby Trail on January 5th in Santa Anita’s Sham Stakes (G3), he blew past the field in the final furlong to score by a length. The 3-year-old colt by Exchange Rate, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, makes his next start in Saturday’s $150,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita. He was purchased for $225,000 out of the Brick City Thoroughbreds consignment after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5.  watch his under tack video
