March grads Mucho Gusto, Gunmetal Gray one-two in Santa Anita’s Robert F. Lewis

Michael Lund Petersen’s Mucho Gusto moved up outside the leader to take command of Santa Anita’s $150,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita turning for home and drew off down the stretch to score by 4-3/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Gunmetal Gray (March ’18), who rallied from last for the place. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Mucho Macho Man, winner of Del Mar’s Bob Hope Stakes (G3) at two. Consigned to the 2018 OBS March Sale by Kirkwood Stables, Agent, he turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Mucho Gusto is the third OBS March graduate to win the Robert B. Lewis (G3), following Crown of Thorns in 2007 and Lombo last year. OBS April graduate I’ll Have Another took the 2011 renewal.

Leonard C. Green’s A Thread of Blue went right to the front at the start of Sunday’s $100,000 Dania Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park and never looked back, coasting to victory by 3-1/2 lengths. It’s the second straight win and first stakes victory for the 3-year-old colt by Hard Spun, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, now 6-3-1-1 with earnings of $151,380. He breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased for $430,000 out of the Niall Brennan Stables consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale. watch his under tack video

Misty Hollow Farm’s Drafted came out of the turn last of six in the $200,000 Al Shindagha Sprint Stakes (G3) on Thursday at Meydan Race Course, but swept past the leaders in deep stretch and eased away to a three-quarter length victory. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Field Commission, a two time OBS graduate. After going through the ring at the 2015 August Yearling Sale, he was sold for $35,000 at the 2016 March Sale by Kim Harrison (Top Speed Farm), Agent, after an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. On the same card at Meydan, Phoenix Ladies Syndicate’s unbeaten Golden Jaguar made it two for two, picking up his first stakes victory with a 2-1/2 length score in the $100,000 Meydan Classic Trial, running the 1,400 meters on the turf in a stakes record 1:24.29. The 3-year-old colt by Animal Kingdom, trained by Ahmad bin Harmash, has earned $80,423 to date.
