Robert LaPenta and Head of Plains Partners LLC’s Coal Front gave his connections an early Christmas present on Saturday at Gulfstream, sitting just off the early pace in the $100,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3), circling horses to take charge in the stretch and drawing away in a 3-3/4 length victory. It’s the third graded stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Stay Thirsty, trained by Todd Pletcher, now 7-5-0-0 with $477,280 in earnings. He turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5 before he was purchased for $575,000 by Steven W. Young on behalf of Mr. LaPenta at the 2016 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video

Naveed Chowhan’s America’s Tale took charge of Wednesday’s $72,750 Tiffany Lass Stakes at Fair Grounds at the start and never looked back, cruising to a five length victory over fellow OBS graduate Shenandoah Queen (March ’14, January ’13). That’s two straight stakes scores for the 3-year-old filly by Gio Ponti, consigned by Eisaman Equine to the 2017 OBS March Sale, where she went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Now 15-5-3-1 for trainer Bernard Flint, she has earned $269,823 to date. watch her under tack video
