October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, October 9th

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2018 October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, October 9th. There are 702 yearlings cataloged for the three-day sale, which gets underway at 12:00 noon with 213 horses offered in the Selected session.

The sale continues with Open sessions on Wednesday, October 10th and Thursday, October 11th, beginning at 12:00 noon on both days. Hip No.’s 301 -550 will sell on Wednesday and Hip No.’s 551 – 789 will be offered on Thursday.

Thirty-five yearlings were supplemented to the sale after the catalog was printed in September. Twenty-three horses (Hip No’s 191 – 213) were added to the Selected session and twelve (Hip No’s 778 – 789) to the Open session. Their catalog pages are available via the OBS website at obssales.com and in printed form at the sales grounds.

Walking videos of many of the Selected yearlings may be viewed through the Sortable Master Index on the OBS website. The sortable master index provides searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. Advanced search and filter capability has been added to allow shortlist creation. A link to instructions for using the new features can be found in the index header and a step by step tutorial is available in the index as well. The sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN and BloodHorse websites. The website now includes a Spanish language section which can be accessed from the home page. The section’s index links to information for consignors and buyers, as well as press releases and important general information.

There are several notable recent updates since the catalog was printed. Hip No. 36, a colt by Kitten’s Joy, has a newly minted stakes winning full brother in Henley’s Joy, who captured the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Stakes on September 1st and was second by a nose this afternoon in Keeneland’s Bourbon Stakes (G3).

Hip No. 39, a Central Banker filly, is a full sister to OBS graduate Sassy Agnes, winner of the Lady Finger Stakes on September 8th.

OBS Yearling Sale graduates in the headlines recently include Uriah St. Lewis’ Discreet Lover, who shocked the racing world with an upset victory in the $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) at Belmont Park. The 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Repent picked up his second graded stakes win and became the newest millionaire OBS graduate with earnings of $1,354,060. Consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, he went through the ring at the 2014 OBS August Yearling Sale.

Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables LLC and Bethlehem Stables LLC’s World of Trouble, pictured on the back cover of the catalog, has won three stakes this year. After taking the Quick Call Stakes at Saratoga in August, the 3-year-old graded stakes placed Florida-bred colt by Kantharos took the $100,000 Allied Forces Stakes on the turf at Belmont in September. Now 7-4-1-1 with $333,400 in earnings for trainer Jason Servis, he was consigned by Darsan Inc., Agent, to the 2016 August Yearling Sale.

Kevin Attard and Soli Mehta’s 2014 OBS Yearling Sale graduate Starship Jubilee picked up her third graded stakes win, taking the Canadian Stakes (G2) at Woodbine on September 15. Consigned to the sale by The Acorn, the 5-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Indy Wind, is now 23-11-2-2 and has earned $541,013.

Graduates of the 2017 October Yearling Sale have begun to make their mark, headed by John C. Oxley’s Schuylerville Stakes (G2) winning catalog cover girl Catherinethegreat. The 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Uncaptured, consigned by Turtle Pond Farm, topped the 2017 OBS October Open Sale of Yearlings, purchased for $170,000. Trained by Mark Casse, she has earned $138,939 to date.

Mr. Oxley’s graded stakes placed Strike Silver, sold by Kaizen Sales for a Selected Sales topping $275,000, came from dead last turning for home to get up in the last jump and win Keeneland’s Indian Summer Stakes by a neck this afternoon. The victory earned a trip to the Breeders’ Cup for the Mark Casse trainee, who is now 3-2-1-0 and has earned $180,600.

Charles L. Biggs’ Congrats Gal is graded stakes placed; Dale Hagedorn’s Mr Wrench It is a stakes winner and Gary Barber’s Eyeinthesky, Wayne W. Rice’s Dalliance and Hernandez Racing Club’s Mozo Bello are already stakes placed.
