Paved wins Santa Anita’s Honeymoon Stakes

Ciaglia Racing LLC and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ Paved stayed off the pace in the early going in Saturday’s $200,060 Honeymoon Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita, but she rallied on the turn, came between horses to take command in the stretch and drew away late to win by 3-1/2 lengths. Fellow OBS graduate Ms Peintour (June ’17, April ’17) checked in third. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old daughter of Quality Road, who beat the boys earlier in the year in the El Camino Real Derby.  Now 6-3-0-3 for trainer Michael McCarthy, she has earned $242,640 to date. She was purchased by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners for $320,000 out of the Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co. consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

James M. Miller’s Lovely Bernadette had one horse beaten on the backstretch of Churchill’s $100,000 Mint Julep Handicap (G3) on Saturday, but the 4-year-old daughter of Wilburn closed down the stretch and got up in the final yards to score by a neck. It’s her third graded stakes win and leaves her with a 17-8-0-3 career record and earnings of $568,479. She turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 4/5 at the 2016 OBS June Sale before she was purchased by Mr. Miller for $28,000 from Bobby Jones Equine LLC & Santa Fe Thoroughbreds, Agent. watch her under tack video

Leonard C. Green’s Sower is now three for three and a stakes winner after leading from gate to wire and winning the $150,000 Jersey Girl Stakes by 4-3/4 lengths at Belmont Park on Sunday. Fellow OBS graduate Take Charge Paula (March ’17) checked in third. Sower is trained by Linda Rice, who purchased the now 3-year-old filly by Flatter for $120,000 out of the Harris Training Center consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale after she breezed an Under Tack eighth in : 10 1/5. watch her under tack video

Gary Barber and John C. Oxley’s unbeaten Road to Victory, idle since capturing Churchill’s Golden Rod Stakes (G2) in November, returned to the races in style, rallying to take charge of Woodbine’s $100,00 Alywow stakes a furlong from home and besting fellow OBS graduate Originator (June ’17) by a length and a half. Now three for three for trainer Mark Casse, she has earned $191,086 to date. The 3-year-old daughter of Quality Road sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show prior to the 2017 OBS April Sale before she was purchased for $500,000 by Justin Casse, Agent, out of the de Meric Sales consignment. watch her under tack video

Heczor Investment Corp.’s King Humor is also three for three and a stakes winner after going to the lead early in Thursday’s $75,000 Ocala Flame Stakes at Gulfstream Park and staying there all the way, scoring by half a length. Trained by Victor Barboza, Jr., the 3-year-old colt by Distorted Humor has earned $101,325 to date. Consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, to the 2017 OBS June Sale, he turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he sold for $50,000. watch his under tack video

 

e Five Racing Stable’s Florida Fuego came around horses on the turn in Wednesday’s $75,000 Liza Jane Stakes at Gulfstream Park, closed on the outside down the stretch and was up in the last jump to win by a nose. Fellow OBS graduate Writer’s Almanac (April ’17) was another length back in third. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Kantharos, now 6-3-0-1 for trainer David Fawkes with $154,935 in earnings. She sped an Under Tack quarter in :21 4/5 before she was she was purchased for $70,000 out of the Ocala Stud consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale. watch her under tack video
