Quality Road filly tops Spring Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 95, a daughter of Quality Road consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was purchased by Frank Fletcher Racing for $800,000,  topping the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2018 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed a quarter in :22 flat at Monday’s Under Tack session, is out of Betty Brite, by Medaglia d’Oro, a half sister to graded stakes winner Betty’s Bambino.

  • Hip No. 144, a son of Strong Mandate consigned by Randy Miles, Agent, went to Alex & JoAnn Lieblong for $550,000. The dark bay or brown colt, whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance at Monday’s session, is out of Callous Effect, by Majestic Warrior, a half sister to stakes winner Miss Frost.
  • Hip No. 23, a daughter of Arch consigned by Off the Hook LLC, Agent, was sold to Steven W. Young, Agent, for $475,000. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed an eighth at the Under Tack Show in :10 2/5, is a half sister to graded stakes winner Zivo out of American Skipper, by Quiet American.
  • Hip No. 245 also brought $475,000, the bay colt by Big Drama purchased by Klaravich Stable, Inc. out of the Eisaman Equine consignment. He’s a half brother to stakes winner Surplus Singer out of stakes winner Daisy Dukes, by Ghazi.
  • Mike Ryan, Agent, went to $410,000 for Hip No. 199, a daughter of Bernardini consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent. The gray or roan filly who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5, is a half sister to stakes placed C J’s Awesome out of graded stakes placed C J’s Leelee, by Mizzen Mast.
  • Hip No. 276, a chestnut colt by He’s Had Enough consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, Agent, was sold to L.E.B., Agent for West Point Tb’s & Robert Masiell for $370,000. Out of Discreet Chat, by Discreet Cat, and a half brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Discreet Lover, winner of the recent Excelsior Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct, he worked an  eighth in :10 flat on Tuesday.

 

  • Alex & JoAnn Lieblong also purchased Hip No. 248 for $350,000, a daughter of Uncaptured consigned by S B M Training and Sales, Agent, a half sister to stakes placed For Emma out of stakes placed Dandy Dulce, by Dixieland Heat. The chestnut filly turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat at the Tuesday session.
  • Xavier International Bloodstock, Agent, paid $320,000 for Hip No. 37, a son of Yes It’s True consigned by King’s Equine, Agent. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 2/5, is out of A Prettydixie, by Dixie Union, a half sister to graded stakes placed Testosterone.
  • Hip No. 305, a son of He’s Had Enough consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, went to Gary Young, Agent for $320,000. The bay colt, who breezed a quarter in :21 3/5 on Tuesday, is out of Elizabits, by Forestry, a half sister to graded stakes placed Deep Shadow.
  • King’s Equine also consigned Hip No. 127, a daughter of Quality Road purchased by Susan Moulton for $310,000. The bay filly, whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance at Monday’s Under Tack session, is out of Bridles Prayer, by Unbridled’s Song, a daughter of grade one stakes winner River’s Prayer.
  • Hip No. 165, a son of Speightstown consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Mike Ryan, Agent for Marc Keller, for $280,000. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 o Monday, is out of graded stakes placed Celestial Kitten, by Kitten’s Joy.
  • Hip No. 241, World Affairs, a son of Cairo Prince consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, went to Sterling Racing LLC for $260,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 on Tuesday, is out of Current Event, by Curlin, a daughter of stakes winner Grand Merger.
  • Hip No. 30, a daughter of The Factor consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Stonestreet Stables LLC for $250,000. The gray or roan filly, out of graded stakes winner Another Romance, by Saint Anddan, turned in Monday’s fastest quarter, stopping the timer in :21 1/5.
  • Hip No. 281, a chestnut colt by Strong Mandate consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners & E R J Racing for $250,000. A half brother to graded stakes winner Spectator, second in the recent Santa Anita Oaks (G1), out of Diva’s Tribute, by Henny Hughes, he breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 on Tuesday.

For the day, 151 horses brought a total of $15,083,000 compared with 185 selling for a total of $15,675,700 at last year’s opening session. The average price was $99,887, up 17.8% compared to $84,734 in 2017 while the median price was $55,000, up 14.6%compared with $48,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 28.1%; it was 16.7% last year.
