April grad Bobby Abu Dhabi takes Santa Anita’s Kona Gold Stakes

Rockingham Ranch and David A. Bersen LLC’s OBS April graduate Bobby Abu Dhabi was up close in the early going of Santa Anita’s $200,000 Kona Gold Stakes (G2) on Saturday, took over turning for home, opened up daylight in the stretch and hit the wire the winner by a length and a quarter. Fellow OBS graduate Blameitonthelaw (March ’15) checked in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Macho Uno, consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC to the 2016 April Sale, where he turned in an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5 before going to Rockingham for $335,000. Now 8-4-2-0 for trainer Peter Miller, he has earned $345,100 to date.  watch his under tack video

My Purple Haze Stables’ Retonova is two for two and a stakes winner after rallying  to take charge of Sunday’s $100,000 New York Stallion Stakes at Aqueduct a furlong from home and drawing off to win by 2-3/4 lengths. The 3-year-old gelding by Boys at Toscanova, trained by Chris Englehart, has earned $93,000 to date. After breezing three eighths in :35 flat at the Under Tack Show, he was purchased for $20,000 out of the Eversole Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2017 OBS June Sale.  watch his under tack video

Stephanie Seymour Brant’s Significant Form scored her second stakes victory on Sunday at Aqueduct, leading from gate to wire en route to a 6-1/4 length win in the $100,000 Memories of Silver Stakes. The 3-year-old daughter of Creative Cause, who broke her maiden in Belmont’s Miss Grillo Stakes (G3) last fall, was purchased for $575,000 out of the Eddie Woods consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat. Now 4-2-0-0 for trainer Chad Brown, she has earned $237,445 to date. watch her under tack video
