Seeking the Soul scores in Churchill’s Clark Handicap

Charles Fipke’s Seeking the Soul picked a fine spot for his first stakes win, rallying to reach contention in the stretch of Friday’s $500,000 Clark Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs, taking the lead in the stretch and holding off a late charge to score by half a length. The 4-year-old colt by Perfect Soul (IRE), now 17-5-3-5 for trainer Dallas Stewart, has earned $551,162 to date. James M. Miller’s Lovely Bernadette scored her second straight graded stakes victory on Friday in the $200,000 Mrs. Revere Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, taking the lead on the backstretch, opening daylight in the lane and holding off the late runners to win by half a length.  The 3-year-old daughter of Wilburn turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 4/5 before she was purchased by Mr. Miller for $28,000 out of the Bobby Jones Equine LLC & Santa Fe Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2016 OBS June Sale.  Trained by Jim DiVito, she’s now 14-7-0-3 with four stakes wins and earnings of $508,413. watch her under tack video

Gary Barber and John C. Oxley’s Road to Victory looked beaten a furlong from home after pressing the pace in Saturday’s $200,000 Golden Rod Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, but the 2-year-old Quality Road filly came again and got up late to win by a neck. Two for two and a graded stakes winner for trainer Mark Casse, she has earned $144,670. Consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, to the 2017 OBS April Sale, she sped an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show before going to Justin Casse, Agent, for $500,000. watch her under tack video

Michael Dubb and David Simon’s Control Group took the lead at the start of the $200,000 Discovery Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct on Saturday and never looked back, cruising to a three length victory with fellow OBS graduate Bonus Points (April ’16) checking in third. It’s the first stakes score for the 3-year-old son of Posse, who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 before he was purchased for $15,000 out of the Dean’s List consignment at the 2016 OBS June Sale. Trained by Rudy Rodriguez, he’s now 13-5-3-3 and has earned $321,570.  watch his under tack video

William H. Lawrence’s Analyze It is two for two and a graded stakes winner after leading from flag fall to finish and taking Sunday’s $102,070 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes on the Del Mar turf course by 4-1/4 lengths. The 2-year-old colt by Point of Entry, trained by Chad Brown, has earned $105,000. He was purchased  for $190,000 by Bradley Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, out of the Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co. consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. watch his under tack video

Two OBS graduates got the holiday weekend off to a good start at Penn National.

David Jacobson’s Chief Lion rolled to a half length wire to wire victory in the $200,000 Fabulous Strike Stakes. It’s the first stakes win for the 7-year-old graded stakes placed Florida-bred gelding by Wildcat Heir, trained by his owner, now 43-11-6-7 with earnings of $717,941. Consigned to the 2011 OBS Winter Mixed Sale by Kaizen Sales, Agent for Plumley Farms, he was sold for $35,000.

Trin-Brook Stables, Inc.’s Discreet Lover tracked the early leader in the $100,000 Swatara Stakes, took over on the far turn and drew away in the stretch to win by 2-1/2 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old Florida- bred filly by Repent, trained by Uriah St. Lewis, leaving her with a 34-5-7-4 record and $527,110 in earnings. Consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, she went through the ring at the 2014 OBS August Yearling Sale.

Karl Pergola’s K P Wildcat rallied from well of the pace in Wednesday’s $75,000 Zia Park Distaff Stakes, took the lead in deep stretch and eased away to win by a length. It’s the fifth stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Include,  sold for $40,000 by Paul Sharp, Agent, at the 2015 OBS June Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Trained by Weston Martin, she’s now 14-9-2-2 and has earned $373,636 to date. watch her under tack video

August Dawn Farm’s Small Bear posted his first stakes win in the $150,000 Gio Ponti Stakes at Aqueduct on Friday, coming from behind and getting up in the final yards to win by a neck. Trained by Jeremiah C. Englehart, the 3-year-old gelding by Macho Uno is now 12-4-3-2 and has earned $286,432. Consigned by Randy Bradshaw, Agent, to the 2016 OBS April Sale, he breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5 before he was sold for $80,000. watch his under tack video

Blinkers On Racing Stable, Bennett, Cahee, Georgetti, Harris, Lyons et al’s Steph Being Steph pressed front-running fellow OBS graduate She’s No Drama (April ’17, August ’16) into the stretch of Friday’s $66,125 Golden Gate Debutante Stakes, wore her down late and beat her to the wire by three quarters of a length. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old daughter of Majestic Warrior, trained by Brian Koriner, now 4-2-1-0 with $72,145 in earnings. She turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat at the 2017 OBS April Sale before she was purchased by Blinkers On Racing Stable for $240,000 out of the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment. watch her under tack video

Erich G. Brehm’s Night Strike closed with a rush to break his maiden and capture Saturday’s $75,000 Don C. McNeil Stakes at Remington Park by three lengths. Now 6-1-1-1 for trainer Bret Calhoun, he has earned $62,162 to date.  The two time OBS graduate colt by Liaison was sold by Stuart Morris , Agent at the 2016 August Sale, and then consigned by Mayberry Farm, Agent, to the 2017 April Sale where he went through the ring after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5. watch his under tack video
