Mr. Misunderstood captures Churchill’s Commonwealth Turf Stakes

Flurry Racing Stables LLC’s Mr. Misundertood is six for seven this year and a graded stakes winner after circling horses to take command of Saturday’s $100,000 Commonwealth Turf Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs in the stretch and easing away to win by a length and a half. It’s the fourth straight stakes win for the 3-year-old gelding by Archarcharch, trained by Brad Cox, now 12-8-1-0 with earnings $364,694. Consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, to the 2016 OBS March Sale, he was sold for $130,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch his under tack video

OBS graduates posted five stakes wins on Saturday at Gulfstream Park West.

Richlyn Farms’ Silver Bay is two for two and a stakes winner after leading from gate to wire and taking the Juvenile Fillies Sprint Stakes by a neck over fellow OBS graduate Starship Bonita (March ’17, August ’16). The 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Currency Swap is a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent at the 2015 Fall Mixed Sale then resold for $47,000 by Woodside Ranch, Agent, at the 2017 June Sale after working a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Magic Stables LLC’s Lirica was wide in the early going of the $75,000 Millions Distaff Stakes, moved to the leaders at the top of the stretch and was up in the final yards to win by half a length. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Kantharos, a two time OBS graduate. She was purchased out of the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2014 Winter Mixed Sale and then sold by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, for $20,000 at the 2015 August Yearling Sale. Midwest Thoroughbreds’ Quijote battled head and head for the lead on the outside of two horses in the $75,000 Millions Sprint  Preview Stakes, took charge in deep stretch and beat fellow OBS graduate Sweetontheladies (April ’16) to the wire by a length and a quarter. It’s the second stakes win for the 4-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Pomeroy, purchased by Midwest for $25,000 out of the Kelli Mitchell consignment at the 2014 OBS August Selected Yearling Sale. Trained by Armando de la Cerda, he’s now 15-6-4-0 and has earned $283,045 to date.  Selected Sale conformation photo

David Melin, Leon Ellman and Laurie Plesa’s Mr. Jordan pressed the early leader in the $75,000 Millions Classic Preview Stakes, took over on the backstretch and widened from there, galloping off to win in hand by 11-1/2 lengths. It’s the fifth stakes win for the graded stakes winning 5-year-old Florida-bred colt by Kantharos, trained by Eddie Plesa, now 24-8-4-6 with $605,340 in earnings. The two time OBS graduate was sold by Summerfield, Agent, at the 2013 August Sale and then purchased by trainer Eddie Plesa for $155,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2014 April Sale after speeding  a quarter in :21 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Kerri Szegi’s Nauti Boy scored his first stakes victory in the $75,000 Juvenile Turf Stakes, battling fellow OBS graduate The X (August ’16) to the wire and winning by a nose. Trained by Lilli Kurtinecz, the 2-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Mizzen Mast is now 5-2-0-0 and has earned $72,405 to date. Consigned by his owner to the 2017 OBS April Sale, he went through the ring after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 4/5. watch his under tack video 

OBS grads picked up a trio of stakes wins on Saturday at Laurel.

Bruce Tallisman’s Take Charge Paula scored her second stakes win in the $100,000 Smart Halo Stakes. She wore down the leaders in the stretch despite getting hit in the jaw with a whip, took the lead a sixteenth from home and prevailed by a head. The 2-year-old graded stakes placed daughter of Take Charge Indy was consigned by Envision Equine, Agent, to the 2017 OBS March Sale, where she breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 before she was purchased by Mr. Tallisman for $50,000. Trained by Kelly Breen, she’s now 5-3-1-0 and has earned $143,600 to date. watch her under tack video

D.J. Stable’s A Different Style took the lead at the start of the $100,000 James F. Lewis Stakes and never looked back, cruising to a two length victory, with fellow OBS graduate Barry Lee (March ’17) checking in third. That’s two straight wins for the 2-year-old colt by The Factor, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was purchased for $160,000 out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale. Trained by John Servis, he’s now 3-2-1-0 and has earned $100,400. watch his under tack video 

BB Horses’ Afleet Willy broke poorly and had traffic problems on the first turn in the $100,000 Richard W. Small Stakes, but he circled horses on the turn, took over after turning for home and scored by three quarters of a length over fellow OBS graduate Discreet Lover (August ’14). That’s two straight stakes wins for the 4-year-old gelding by Wilburn, now 24-10-7-2 with $367,735 in earnings for trainer Claudio Gonzalez.  He was purchased for $50,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2015 OBS June Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.  watch his under tack video
