Patrona Margarita, The Tabulator take Churchill juvenile graded stakes

OBS graduates captured both ends of Churchill’s graded stakes doubleheader for 2-year-olds on Saturday, including a one-two finish by alumni of last year’s Yearling Sale.

Craig D. Upham’s Patrona Margarita was overlooked at 23-1 in the $200, 000 Pocahontas Stakes (G2), but the 2-year-old daughter of Special Rate relaxed in the early going, circled horses on the turn, took the lead turning for home and drew away to win by 3-3/4 lengths over fellow 2016 OBS August Yearling Sale graduate Kelly’s Humor. Now 4-2-0-1 with earnings of $150,253 for trainer Bret Calhoun, she was consigned to the sale by Stoneview Farm, Agent.

Carolyn Wilson’s undefeated The Tabulator is three for three and a graded stakes winner after tracking the early pace in the $150,000 Iroquois Stakes (G3), taking command on the turn and scoring by three quarters of a length. Trained by Larry Rivelli, he has earned $143,550 to date. The 2-year-old colt by Dialed In was purchased for $460,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2017 OBS March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. watch his under tack video 

Bantry Farms’ Grace’s Treasure was awarded victory via disqualification in the $100,000 Open Mind Stakes at Churchill Downs on Saturday.  It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Rockport Harbor, two for two this year and 9-4-0-0 overall for trainer Michael Ann Ewing with $127,704 in earnings. She was purchased for $55,000 out of the Andy Cant consignment at the 2014 OBS Winter Mixed Sale.

Shadybrook Farm, Inc. and Pam Klein’s Katinka picked up her first stakes victory in the $100,000 Miss Gracie Stakes on Saturday at Gulfstream, battling head to head down the stretch and putting her nose down first on the wire. The 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Kantharos is a two time OBS graduate, sold first at the 2015 August Yearling Sale by Turtle Pond Farm, Agent. She was resold to Shadybrook Farm for $17,000 by Julie Davies, Agent, at the 2016  June Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Trained by Michael Yates, she’s now 10-2-2-2 and has earned $128,090.  watch her under tack video 

Patricia’s Hope LLC’s Good Bye Greg scored his first stakes win on Saturday at Arlington, taking the lead at the start of the $66,600 Jeff Lynn Memorial Stakes and never looking back en route to a 6-1/2 length victory. Trained by Larry Rivelli, the 6-year-old Florida-bred son of Teuflesburg, three for three this year, is now 13-8-2-1 and has earned $218,326 to date. The two-time OBS graduate was sold first by Beth Bayer, Agent, at the 2012 August Selected Yearling Sale, before he was purchased for $135,000 out of the Wavertree consignment at the 2013 March Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video    Selected Sale Conformation Photo

Sansinenea Racing Stable LLC’s 7-year-old Mal Guapo tried stakes company for just the second time in 49 starts, but took the lead at the start of Sunday’s $50,000 Perfect Season Stakes at Gulfstream and was never headed, scoring his first stakes win by 4-1/4 lengths. The gelding by Into Mischief is a three time veteran of the OBS Sales ring, sold by Summerfield, Agent the 2010 Fall Mixed Sale before he was consigned by Blue River Bloodstock to the 2011 August Yearling Sale. He sped an Under Tack quarter in :21 4/5 before he was resold for $57,000  by Blue River Bloodstock at the 2012 June Sale. Trained by Oscar Gonzalez, he’s now 49-15-6-6 and has earned $363,458. watch his under tack video
