Big World, La Coronel post graded wins on Oaks Day at Churchill

Maggi Moss’ Big World went right to the front in Churchill’s $300, 000 La Troienne Stakes (G1), turned back a pack of challengers in the stretch and cruised home a winner by a length and a quarter. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Custom for Carlos, winner of Aqueduct’s Tempted Stakes (G3) at two. Three for three this year for trainer Tom Amoss, she’s now 11-7-4 and has earned $608,820 to date. John C. Oxley’s La Coronel, far back in the early going of Churchill’s $150,000 Edgewood Stakes (G3), circled horses on the turn to reach contention in the stretch then closed relentlessly to overhaul entrymate Dream Dancing in the final yards and win by half a length. That’s three graded stakes wins for the 3-year-old daughter of Colonel John, now 8-4-1-0 with $345,175 in earnings for trainer Mark Casse. She was purchased out of the Winners Circle Thoroughbreds consignment for $375,000 at the 2016 OBS April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. watch her under tack video

Abdullah Saeed Almaddah’s Green Mask circled wide into the stretch of Churchill’s $150,000 Twin Spires Turf Stakes (G3), ran past the leaders in the final furlong and scored a two length victory. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 6-year-old gelding by Mizzen Mast, purchased for $150,000 out of the Casse Sales LLC (Justin Casse) consignment at the 2013 OBS April Sale after an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Trained by Brad Cox, his third stakes victory leaves him with a 24-6-7-3 record and earnings of $739,066.  watch his under tack video

Three Diamonds Farm’s Bonus Points picked up his first stakes win on Saturday in the $100,500 Parx Derby, rallying from last to first a furlong from home and posting a 1-3/4 length victory.  The graded stakes placed 3-year-old colt by Majestic Warrior, trained by Todd Pletcher, is now 9-2-2-2 and has earned $219,150 to date.  Consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales llc, Agent, to the 2016 OBS April Sale, he breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Hugh H. Robertson and Barry Butzow’s Thoughtless tracked the early pace in Saturday’s $50,000 L’Etoile du Nord Stakes at Canterbury Park, charged past the leaders on the outside in the lane and drew off to win by 3-1/4-lengths over fellow OBS graduate Teelfa (March ’13). It’s the first stake win for the 5-year-old Florida-bred mare by Rockport Harbor, purchased for $15,000 from Peggy S. Dellheim LLC, Agent , at the 2013 OBS August Sale. Trained by McLean Robertson, she’s now 16-4-6-3 and has earned $187,080.
