The Spring Sale has long been a solid source of high class racehorses, producing Classic winners Lil E. Tee, Silver Charm and I’ll Have Another, 25 millionaires and ten champions.

The latest champion is Ciaglia Racing, Exline-Border, Gulliver Racing, Sharon Alesia, Christensen, and Legan’s Champagne Room, 2016’s champion 2-year-old filly. The daughter of Broken Vow was on the board in four of five starts at two and wrapped up her juvenile campaign with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).  Trained by Peter Eurton, she has earned $1,310,600 to date. Consigned by de Meric Sales to the 2016 OBS April Sale, she was purchased for $310,000 by Larry Zap, Agent, on behalf of her owners.  watch her under tack video   Champagne Room’s April Sale auction footage

The most recently minted April millionaire is J Stables, Head of Plains Partners LLC, Summer, Summers, Kisber and Summers’ Mind Your Biscuits, who served notice of things to come with a third place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) before ending 2016 with a victory over fellow OBS April graduate Sharp Azteca in Santa Anita’s Malibu Stakes (G1).  Sent to Dubai to take on a talented international field in the Golden Shaheen (G1) at Meydan Race Course, he moved to the top of the world’s rankings with a four length victory, the first win for trainer Chad Summers.  The son of Posse, now 15-5-6-2 with earnings of $2,015,166 was consigned by SBM Training and Sales, Agent, to the 2015 OBS April Sale, where he turned in an eighth in :10 3/5 at the Under Tack Show.  watch his under tack video

On the eve of the 2017 classics, Kendall E. Hansen’s Fast and Accurate is now pointing to the Kentucky Derby (G1). He’s looking to follow in the footsteps of 2011 Derby winner Animal Kingdom, who parlayed a victory in Turfway Park’s Spiral Stakes (G3) into a win on the first Saturday in May. The Spiral was the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Hansen, trained by Mike Maker. Now 6-3-1-0 with $340,362 in earnings, he breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 before he was purchased for $85,000 from Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, at the 2016 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video

The latest April graduate in the headlines is John C. Oxley’s La Coronel, who romped to a 3-1/4 length victory in the $125,000 Applachian Stakes (G3) at Keeneland on Thursday.  It’s the second graded stakes win over the Keeneland turf course for the 3-year-old daughter of Colonel John, winner of the Jessamine Stakes (G3) in October, leaving her with a 7-3-1-0 record and earnings of $259,615 for trainer Mark Casse. She was purchased out of the Winners Circle Thoroughbreds consignment for $375,000 at the 2016 OBS April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. watch her under tack video

In all, since the beginning of 2016, 192 April graduates have won or placed in 342 stakes races, including 127 stakes victories. During this time 27 April graduates have accounted for 33 graded stakes wins.
