Creative Cause filly tops final day of record breaking Spring Sale

Hip No. 999, a daughter of Creative Cause consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, went to Linda Rice, Agent, for $850,000  to top the fourth and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s record breaking 2017 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The chestnut filly, who breezed a quarter in :21 flat at Friday’s  Under Tack session, is out of stakes winner Santina Dond, by El Prado (IRE), a half sister to graded stakes winner Patton’s Victory.

Hip No. 968, a daughter of Awesome Again consigned by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds, Agent, was sold to Cannon Thoroughbreds LLC for $525,000. The dark bay or brown filly, whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance at Friday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes winner Rivertown Belle, by Bellamy Road, from the family of champion Holy Bull.

Solis / Litt went to $450,000 for Hip No. 1079, a bay colt by Violence consigned by Envision Equine, Agent. A half brother to graded stakes placed Pedaltothemedal out of Something Brewing, by Meadowlake, his quarter on Saturday in :20 3/5 was the session’s co-fastest breeze at the distance.

Hip No. 1205, a son of Scat Daddy also consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, was purchased by Narvick International for $400,000.  The bay colt, whose eighth on Saturday in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance, is out  of Trusty Lady, by Deputy Minister, and is a half brother to graded stakes placed Trendy Lady.

Hip No. 1068, a daughter of Flatter consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, was sold for $360,000 to Larry Zap, Agent for Joseph Ciaglia, Jr. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Smart Music, by Smart Strike, a half sister to grade one stakes winner Include.

Hip No. 1048, a son of Orb consigned by Starting Point Thoroughbreds was purchased by Donna Clark for $340,000. The bay colt, who worked a quarter on Saturday in :21 3/5, is a half brother to stakes winner Rule by Night out of Silver Reserve, by Silver Deputy.

Westbury Stables LLC paid $325,000 for Hip No. 1007, a bay colt by Orb who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 on Friday. Consigned by Brick City Thoroughbreds, Agent, he’s a half brother to graded stakes placed stakes winner Indian Pond out of stakes winner Schooner Bay, by Archers Bay.

Hip No. 1165, a chestnut filly by Violence consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, was sold to Narvick International for $320,000. Out of The Calypso Myth, by Leroidesanimaux (BRZ), she worked an eighth in :10 1/5 on Saturday.

Hip No. 928, a daughter of Distorted Humor consigned by King’s Equine, Agent, was purchased by Dr. Robert McMartin, Agent, for $300,000. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 on Friday, is out of stakes winner Queen of Song, by Unbridled’s Song.

Dr. Robert McMartin, Agent, also bought Hip No. 1043 for $260,000, a son of Giant’s Causeway consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth on Saturday in :10 1/5, is a half brother to stakes placed Hero Ten All out of stakes winner Silky Smooth, by Mr. Greeley.

Breeze Easy LLC went to $300,000 for Hip No. 976, a dark bay or brown colt by Eskendereya out of graded stakes winner Royale Michele, by Elusive Quality. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, he sped a quarter in :21 2/5 at Friday’s Under Tack session.

Hip No. 1060, a bay colt by Northern Afleet was purchased by Ed & Susie Orr for $300,000 after his eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance on Saturday. Consigned by Off the Hook, LLC, Agent, he’s out of Skip Queen, by Skip Away, from the family of champion OBS April graduate Yanks Music.

Brittlyn Stables Inc. paid $300,000 for Hip No. 1198, a son of Point of Entry consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent.  The bay colt, who breezed an eighth on Saturday in :10 2/5 is out of stakes placed Triune, by E Dubai, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Crew Leader.

Hip No. 931, a gray or roan colt by Violence out of graded stakes placed stakes winner Queen’s Triomphe, by Cure the Blues, went to Spendthrift Farm LLC / Town & Country Racing LLC for $280,000. Consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, he turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 3/5 on Friday.

For the session, 143 two-year-olds sold for a total of $13,152,200, compared with 165 horses bringing $14,012,000 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $91,973, up 8% compared to $84,921 in 2016 while the median was $52,000, compared with $50,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 23.5%; it was 16.2% a year ago. Fourteen horses sold for $250,000 or more compared with eleven in 2016.

For the entire sale, 678 horses grossed a sale record $61,185,900, compared with 659 youngsters bringing $52,010,500 a year ago. The figure surpasses the previous mark of $56,965,000 set in 2014.

The average price was a sale record $90,245, up 14.3% from $78,923, and surpassing the old mark of $79,068 set in 2015.

The median was a record $48,000, surpassing the old record of $47,000 set a year ago. The buyback percentage was 17%; it was 22.7% a year ago.  Sixty horses brought $250,000 or more compared to 40 in 2016,

The overall sale topper was Hip No. 793, a son of Tiznow consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, and sold to John F. Moynihan, Agent for M. V. Magnier, for an OBS record $2,450,000. The bay colt, whose eighth in  :9 3/5 at Thursday’s Under Tack session was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of Moonbow, by Distorted Humor, a daughter of stakes winner Storm Beauty.
