Orb colt tops March Sale’s opening session

Hip No. 127, a son of Orb consigned by Crupi’s New Castle Farm, Agent, was sold to Solis / Litt for $1,250,000 to top the first session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2017 March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. The bay colt, who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat last Thursday, is out of Remember, by Forest Wildcat, a half sister to grade one winner Dancing Forever.

Hip No. 223, a son of Curlin consigned by Imagine…, was purchased by Rattler Racing, Inc. for $950,000. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5, is a half brother to stakes winner Wake Up Nick out of Storm Hearted, by Lion Hearted.

Hip No. 295 also sold for $950,000, the son of Scat Daddy consigned by Ocala Stud going to Live Oak Plantation. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked a quarter in :21 3/5 on Friday, is a half brother to graded stakes winner Discreet Dancer out of West Side Dancer, by Gone West.

The session’s third $950,000 purchase was Hip No. 323, a son of Union Rags consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, and sold to Dennis O’Neill. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat on Friday, is out of stakes winner Alexandra Rylee, by Afleet Alex.

Baoma Corp went to $850,000 for the session’s highest priced filly, Hip No. 211, a daughter of Exchange Rate, who worked an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, she’s out of stakes placed Spring Jump, by Jump Start.

Eddie Woods also consigned Hip No. 116, a bay filly by City Zip who breezed a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show. Sold to Graham Motion, Agent, for $700,000, she’s out of Receivership, by End Sweep, and is a full sister to millionaire grade one stakes winning 2011 OBS March graduate Palace.

Hip No. 155, a son of Union Rags consigned by Randy Bradshaw, Agent, was sold for $685,000 to Simon Callaghan, Agent. The chestnut colt, who turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, is a full brother to stakes winner Tequilita out of graded stakes winner Sangrita, by Mr. Greeley.

Kerri Radcliffe, Agent paid $625,000 for Hip No. 153, a son of Super Saver consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, whose quarter in :20 1/5 was  the fastest work at the distance at the Under Tack Show, and equaled the fastest quarter mile breeze ever recorded at OBS. The bay colt is out of stakes placed Sandi’s Ready, by More Than Ready.

Ms. Radcliffe, Agent, also purchased Hip No. 43, a daughter of More Than Ready consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, for $600,000. The bay filly, who worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, is out of Music Score, by Storm Cat, a half sister to grade one stakes winner Distant Music.

Hip No 126, a son of War Front consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, went to Carolyn Wilson for $595,000. The bay colt, who breezed a quarter in :21 1/5 on Thursday, is a half brother to grade one winner Mani Bhavan out of Rehear, by Coronado’s Quest.

Hip No. 27, a son of Animal Kingdom consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Solis / Litt for $550,000. The bay colt, who sped a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes winner Miss Lombardi, by Unbridled Jet, and a half brother to stakes winner Miss Bullistic.

Hip No. 58, a son of Into Mischief consigned by Crupi’s New Castle Farm, Agent, was purchased by Woodford Racing for $550,000. The bay colt, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at Thursday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes placed Nefertiti, by Speightstown, a daughter of graded stakes winner Clearly A Queen.

For the session, 137 horses grossed $26,320,500 compared with 169 bringing a total of $26,418,500 last year. The average was $192,120, up 23% from $156,322 in 2016 and  the median price was $110,000, identical to last year’s figure.  The buyback percentage was 34.1% it was 24.9% in 2016.

The March Sale continues on Wednesday, March 15th at 10:30 a.m. with Hip No.’s 339 – 677 set to go through the ring.
