R Angel Katelyn takes Tampa’s Sandpiper Stakes

Averill Racing LLC and CCF Racing Stable’s R Angel Katelyn turned in her second straight stakes win on Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs, taking the $100,000 Sandpiper Stakes with a 3-1/2 length wire to wire victory. Trained by Gerald Bennett, the 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of High Cotton is now 4-3-0-1 with $147,120 in earnings. J J Brevan Stable LLC’s Chance of Luck is two for two and a stakes winner after leading a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $100,000 Inaugural Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday. The 2-year-old colt by Skipshot, the first stakes winner for his sire, took control turning for home and held off a late charge by Dont Come Knockin (August ’15) to win by a neck, with Triumphant Joy (June ’16) checking in third. Trained by Gerald Bennett, he has earned $48,810 to date. Joe Ragsdale’s Marquee Miss circled horses on the turn of Saturday’s $50,000 Holiday Inaugural Stakes at Turfway Park, then closed stoutly in the stretch and was up in the final yards to win by a neck. It’s the third stakes win of the year for the 3-year-old filly by Cowboy Cal, sold for $20,000 by Southern Chase Farm, Inc. (Greg & Karen Dodd), Agent, to Mr. Ragsdale after breezing an eighth in :10 3/5 at the 2015 OBS June Sale’s Under Tack Show.
