Kantharos colt tops August Yearling Sale’s first Open Session

Hip No. 412, a chestnut colt by Kantharos consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, went to de Meric Stables, Agent, for $80,000 to top the first Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2016 August Yearling Sale. Out of Miss Skeetd, by Cloud Hopping, he’s a full brother to graded stakes winning two-time OBS graduate Mr. Jordan.

Hip No. 344, a son of Majesticperfection consigned by Potrero Stables, Agent, was sold to Southern Chase Farm, Inc. for $65,000. The bay colt is out of Latrina, by Maria’s Mon, a daughter of Sovereign Award winner Primaly.

Hip No. 329, a grey or roan colt by Mission Impazible, went to de Meric Stables, Agent, for $55,000 Consigned by Sequel New York, Agent, the half brother to graded stakes winner Vinceramos is out of Kettle’s Sister, by More Than Ready.

Hip No. 602, a chestnut colt by Kantharos consigned by Big C Farm, Agent, was purchased by Grupo 7C Racing Stable for $55,000. He’s out of Silver Agave, by Silver Deputy, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Irish Daisy.

B & C Horses went to $50,000 for Hip No. 419, a daughter of Bellamy Road consigned by Perrone Sales, Ltd., Agent. The bay filly is out of Money Madness, by Rahy, a half sister to stakes placed Feminine Girl.

For the session, 207 horses brought a total of $1,770,300, compared with 210 yearlings grossing $3,141,200 at last year’s first Open session. The average price was $8,552 compared with $14,958 in 2015, while the median price was $4,700 compared to $10,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 36.5%; it was 19.2% last year.

The Open Yearling Sale’s final session (Hip No.’s 661 – 1047) begins Thursday at 10:30 a.m. It will again be streamed live via the OBS, Blood-Horse and Daily Racing Form websites.
