Illuminant scores in Santa Anita’s Gamely Stakes

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ Illuminant took over turning for home after tracking the pace in Santa Anita’s $301, 035 Gamely Stakes (G1) on Memorial Day and eased away down the stretch for a one length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Quality Road, trained by Mike McCarthy, now 11-4-2-1 with $367,650 in earnings. She was purchased on the recommendation of Gary Young by Eclipse for $180,000 out of the Don R. Graham consignment at the 2014 OBS March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch her under tack video

John C. Oxley’s Diva Express stepped into stakes company for the first time in Saturday’s $100,000 Winning Colors Stakes at Churchill Downs, battled down the stretch with I’m a Looker and the pair finished in a dead heat for the victory. She worked an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show prior to the 2014 OBS April Sale before she was purchased for $260,000 by trainer Mark Casse on behalf of Mr. Oxley from Eisaman Equine, Agent. Bing Cherry Racing’s Bust Another took command of Monday’s $125,000 Mike Lee Stakes at Belmont Park a furlong from home and the 3-year-old gelding by Bustin Stones drew away from there to a 3-1/4 length victory. Trained by Michael Pino, he’s now 8-5-1-0 after his first stakes score and has earned $226,630 to date. He was sold for $48,000 by Casey Newick, Agent, at the 2013 OBS Fall Mixed Sale.
