Spring Sale begins Tuesday

The 2016 OBS Spring Sale of Two Year Olds in Training begins a four day run on Tuesday, April 19th. Hip No.’s 1-304 will sell on Tuesday, Hip No.’s 305-608 sell on Wednesday, Hip No.’s 609-912 sell Thursday and Hip No.’s 913-1216 on Friday. All four sessions begin at 10:30 a.m.

The catalog is available online via the OBS website. A sortable master index provides searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. The main page also contains links to complete information regarding the state of the art Repository and updated Conditions of Sale, implemented in 2016.

The iPad version of the catalog can be accessed via the equineline Sales Catalog App. The App allows users to download and view the catalog and Under Tack videos, receive updates and results, record notes and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capability. The OBS Spring Sale has grown in size and stature to become the world’s preeminent juvenile sale marketplace, attracting buyers from across the country and around the world. Its graduates compete at racing’s highest levels in North America, Europe and Asia.  Nine have won Eclipse Awards and last week, two more were honored with Sovereign Awards. Riker, a 2015 graduate and winner of the Grey (G3), Swynford and Colin Stakes was selected as last year’s Canadian Champion Two-Year-Old Male and 2014 graduate Academic, who captured the British Columbia Derby (G3), Canadian Derby (G3) and Woodbine Oaks was chosen Canadian Champion Three-Year-Old Filly.

The sale’s roster of 24 millionaires includes classic winners Lil E. Tee, Silver Charm and I’ll Have Another.  Other sale alumni in the headlines recently are newly minted Japanese graded stakes winning millionaire A Shin Bullseye and UAE Oaks (G3) winner Polar River, second against males after a troubled trip in the UAE Derby (G1) on Dubai World Cup (G1) day. Within the past month 2014 graduate Fantastic Style captured Santa Anita’s Las Flores (G3), Land Over Sea (2015) won the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) and Guns Loaded (2013) scored in the San Simeon (G3) at Santa Anita.  Since the beginning of 2015, 163 Spring Sale graduates have won or placed in 284 stakes.

At the six-session Under Tack Show, three horses shared honors for the fastest quarters, each stopping the timer in :20  2/5.  The first was on Thursday by Hip No. 790, Chief Ruling, a bay colt by Shackleford consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc., (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, out of Expressive Diva, by In Excess (IRE), a half sister to grade one stakes winner Ringaskiddy.

On Saturday, it was Hip No. 1127, a bay filly by Ghostzapper consigned by Off the Hook LLC, Agent, out of stakes winner Mighty Eros, by Freud and Hip No. 1214, consigned by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, a dark bay or brown filly by Quality Road out of Over Andover, by War Chant, a half sister to graded stakes winner Called to Serve.

There were nine quarters in :20 3/5.

At Monday’s first session it was Hip No. 26, a dark bay or brown filly by Biondetti consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, out of Phanie Slam, by Grand Slam, and a half sister to stakes placed Phaniebdancing.

It was Hip No. 242 on Tuesday, a chestnut colt by Shackleford, a half brother to graded stakes placed Pedaltothemedal out of Something Brewing, by Meadowlake.

There were five at the Wednesday session. Hip No. 428, a chestnut colt by Maclean’s Music consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, is a half brother to stakes placed Leprechaun Kid out of stakes winner Wonderful Luck, by Trust N Luck. Hip No. 429, Teddy Bear, consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock Services, Inc. (Brent & Crystal Fernung), Agent, is a bay colt by Wildcat Heir out of Wontoo, by Montbrook, a half sister to stakes placed Wonone. Hip No. 445, a chestnut filly by Old Fashioned consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Inc., Agent, is a half sister to graded stakes placed Mystery Girl out of A B C Amanda, by Alphabet Soup. Hip No. 491, consigned by Southern Chase Farm, Inc., (Greg & Karen Dodd), Agent, is a dark bay or brown filly by Exchange Rate out of Arcing, by Arch, a daughter of graded stakes placed Pertuisane (GB). Hip No. 599, a bay colt by Into Mischief consigned by Thoroughbred Champions Training Center LLC, is out of Casa Lima, by Limehouse, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Honolua Storm.

On Thursday it was Hip No. 797, a chestnut filly by Biondetti consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent, out of Fantasy Forest, by Forestry, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Travelator.

At Friday’s session it was Hip No. 837, a bay colt by Quality Road consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, out of graded stakes winner French Satin, by French Deputy, and a half brother to graded stakes placed stakes winner Midnight Transfer.

Two horses consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Inc., Agent, turned in the fastest times for three eighths, clocked in :33 2/5. On Tuesday, it was Hip No. 271, Sunday Soldier, a chestnut colt by Mad Flatter out of St. Mary’s Citi, by Citidancer, a daughter of stakes winner Conradley. On Friday it was Hip No. 821, a bay son of In Summation out of Fleet Shopper, by Afleet Alex, a half sister to graded stakes winning sire Put It Back.

Twenty five horses breezed eighths in :9 4/5.

Hip No. 157, consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, is a gray or roan colt by Old Fashioned out of Scarlett, by Gone West, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Happily Unbridled.

Hip No. 181, a bay filly by Hard Spun consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, is out of stakes winner Shedoesrock, by Storm Boot, and is a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winning OBS graduate Amaranth.

Hip No. 305, consigned by Cary Frommer, Agent, is a chestnut colt by Haynesfield out of Swinging, by Wild Again, and is a half brother to stakes placed Off Limits.

Hip No. 323 is a chestnut colt by Flatter out of There Are Rainbows, by Dixieland Band, a full sister to stakes winner Welcome Home, consigned by Robert Brewer, Agent.

Hip No. 395, a chestnut colt by Macho Uno consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, is out of Wadena, by Saint Ballado, and is a half brother to stakes placed Papa Turf.

Hip No. 422, a bay colt by Gio Ponti consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, is out of Wings of Gold, by Mineshaft, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Vision in Flight.

Hip No. 481, consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent, is a dark bay or brown colt by High Cotton out of Angelic Amanda, by Hennessy, and is a half brother to graded stakes placed Show Me the Bling.

Hip No. 1111, consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, is a dark bay or brown filly by Blame out of Marvelous Me, by Capote, a half sister to grade one stake winner Mandy’s Gold.

Hip No 1129, a bay filly by Shackleford consigned by King’s Equine, Agent, is a half sister to stakes winner Million Seller out of Million Gift (JPN), by Sunday Silence.

Hip No. 1136, a bay colt by Overdriven consigned by Eisaman Equine, Agent, is out of Miss Foreesta, by Grand Slam, a daughter of graded stakes placed stakes winner Reforest.

Hip No. 1185, consigned by Randy Bradshaw, Agent, is a dark bay or brown filly by Tizway out of Nec Metu, by Successful Appeal, a half sister to graded stakes winner Senor Rojo.

The Under Tack Show was recorded and is available on the OBS website, by entire session or by individual hip number. The works are also available for viewing in the video room adjacent to the Horsemen’s Lounge in the sales pavilion as well as several kiosks in the lobby and the covered walking ring. In-room viewing is available at The Courtyard by Marriott, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton. Under Tack Show results are posted on the OBS website in .pdf and Excel format as well as via a sortable master index.

The sale will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com and the Blood-Horse and DRF websites.
