Donato Lanni and John F. Youngblood’s Avanzare, idle since winning Santa Anita’s Arcadia Stakes (G2) in January, returned running in Sunday’s $201, 250 Del Mar Mile Handicap (G2). The 5-year-old Grand Reward gelding was far back early, but circled horses on the turn, charged down the stretch and got up in the final yards to win his third graded stakes race by half a length. After working a quarter in :21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, he was purchased by Lanni and Youngblood for $52,000 out of the Cutting Edge Equine consignment at the 2012 OBS June Sale. Trained by Tom Proctor, he’s now 13-7-3-2 and has earned $505,180 to date. watch his under tack video
